    Memory Problems

    Hi,

I am having problems with my memory...

I have just upgraded to 4gb of corsair ddr 2 twinx 2gb pc6400 ram, but when all 4gb of memory is in my computer i get blue screen of death and windows resets just after a few moments of logging in to windows. but on the other hand when i put 3 sticks of this ram in my computer (any of the 3 sticks) it runs perfect at full speed.

    My system is...

    m2a-vm asus motherboard (latest bios)
    4x corsair ddr2 twinx 2gb pc6400 - cm2x1024-6400 g (hopefully)
    amd athlon 6000+
    geforce 8600gt
    150 raptor drive
    Windows vista 64bit (all updates)

anyone any ideas what could be causing this ? i have been messing with it for days now and had no joy

    Thanks for any help

    Re: Memory Problems

    have you run a memtest?
I also assume you formatted after installing the extra RAM...
    Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.2Ghz (400Mhzx8) 1.52V (set in bios, 1.47v real) | 4GB GeIL PC6400 4-4-4-12 | Gigabyte DQ6 @ 1600Mhz | HD2900XT 1GB | Enermax Infiniti 720W | Silverstone TJ07-B with custom watercooling | BenQ FP241WZ

yes ran memtest on every stick sepratly in every slot to test the slots on the motherboad, and they all passed .

    Re: Memory Problems

Athlons (939) had a problem addressing 4 sticks of ram at full speed (ddr400 in that case had to be reduced to ddr333), its possible that this is carried over into AM2.
Try searching for similar problems with 4 full slots of RAM.

Do you run at stock 6400 or overclocked to get this issue?

If that is the problem then speak to Corsair who may well exchange them for 2x2gb which should solve that issue, or to supplier who may take them under RMA exchange.

Similarly try downclocking to ddr2-667 with 4 modules and stock FSb etc, to see if this alleviates the problem. I dont mean as a long term solution, just as a test.

Cores pre Winchester / Venice / San Diego (Clawhammer, Newcastle) it reverted to 333 but after that they have no problem using matched 4 sticks at 2T command rate. 1T would either not boot or be unstable

Generally the integrated memory controller is a lot fussier (well... less forgiving) than Pentium 4 and Core 2 systems too (about using non-matched memory).
