ASUS P5K gone belly up on me

    Hey all

I've been running the P5K Deluxe WIFI motherboard in my sig for quite a while now, and just this morning it refused to post.

Basically, I hit the power switch, fans and everything spin up but NO vga, NO error bleeps, NO post beep, nothing!

i tried the RAM, GFX card, and the sound cards in a different PC and they all work

I have tried disconnecting EVERYTHING from the motherboard but I dont get anything! if i remove the RAM i get the error code for RAM but I still dont get a post!

I have also tried resetting the CMOS both by using the jumper method and by removing the battery and leaving it out whilst i was at work (almost 5 hours) to no avail

I'm just wondering what my next step should be, should I send this back to Scan or do I send it back to ASUS?

Can i just say i have never ever before had a single problem with any scan products! hence buying practically my entire rig from them!

can anyone help me with this? this is my main PC which i do EVERYTHING on! and i really need to get this up and running again. I have all the original packaging and receipts and delivery notes and everything waiting if i have to send it back.

    please advise!

    With thanks.

Long shot but have you tried another PSU on this board or your PSU on another
Also the CPU in anything else/another cpu in this board?

Re: ASUS P5K gone belly up on me

PSU can be a problem, but if fans are working drives etc, it usually means it is fine.

I would suggest that it is MB, if there would be anything wrong with CPU, MB would give sound warning.
As Philipp suggested, best is to raise a support ticket.

Re: ASUS P5K gone belly up on me

If the 4pin/8pin cpu connector isnt inserted or has an issue (or similarly the feed from psu to it) then it can exhibit problems as described.
Less likely but still possible, if it was easy to test another known one it can rule out that possibility to save the potential £30+VAT pick up and return for NFF.

PSU is a corsair HX 620W.

What is really odd is that yesterday i turned the PC on again, and it miraculously came to life. I did nothing different.

So far, its managed to post on the last 10-15 times ive rebooted it, just hope it stays this way. sods law is that this happens over the days in which i am expected to present an audit to the medics and surgeons in the joint meeting - lucky me!

Maybe the power cord wasn't in properly and you accidentally knocked it and there was enough contact to power it up? only joking - glad it is back working

Re: ASUS P5K gone belly up on me

    hi,

im afraid i have to say that my pc lasted several days, and yesterday decided it would not boot up again. i have the same issue.

scanguys, please tell me whether i can RMA my board for this issue. I purchased my psu/gfx/hdds/most of my pc from you. i brought ram from crucial direct.

please advise ASAP as im going spare here, but dont want to rma only for it to be returned as being ok.

    its an intermittent problem.

Re: ASUS P5K gone belly up on me

This sounds identical to the issue I had with my P5KC,see the disapointed with scan thread. I was getting no POSTS with fans and everything spin up but NO vga, NO error beeps, NO post beep.
If I took out all cards I was able to get a no memory or no graphics beep sometimes but not reliably.
I was able to boot the system with an alternative graphics card in slot 2, but not with my 8500GT in either slot. It might be worth a try if you have a spare graphics card. The issue with my board started out as intermittent but worsened until unusable quite rapidly (within 2 days of system completion). I'm guessing it was a dry joint somewhere around the primary PCI-express slot.

Good luck with diagnosis, I sent back PSU, graphics and motherboard for testing to be sure.

    Cheers

    Phil
