ZyXEL NBG318S Wireless Cable Router usable with other brands of HomePlug receiver?

Can the ZyXEL NBG318S Wireless Cable Router (with in-built PowerLine HomePlug AV) be used with other brands of HomePlug receiver?

I ask because I currently use some LEA-branded 85mbps units but rather fancy putting in a 200mbps unit at the cable end.

    Hi

It is my understanding that Homeplug 1 (14Mbps) & Homeplug 1 Turbo (85Mpbs) are compatible but Homeplug AV (200Mbps) is not compatible with either of the earlier technologies. They will coexist on the same mains system but will not connect to each other.

    See: here

I've got an update for you now regarding this.

I've been told as long as the 'other' equipment is homplug certified then they will work with the Zyxel series of hardware. There are some out there that are not certified and these will not function correctly.

Re: ZyXEL NBG318S Wireless Cable Router usable with other brands of HomePlug receiver

    Hi again

Seems to me that Zyxel are a bit confused!

Below is a quote from the page here:

    ZyXEL FAQ

"What is the difference between the PL-100, PLA-400, PLA-401 and the PowerLine technology in the P-660HWP, and do they interoperate?

The PLA-400, PLA-401 and P-660HWP support the new HomePlug AV specificaiton giving speeds up to 200 Mbps, whereas the PL-100 supports the older HomePlug 1.0 specification for speeds up to 85 Mbps.

The difference between the PLA-400 and PLA-401 is just the design. The PLA400 is a desktop unit with a power cord, whereas the PLA401 is a plug top unit designed to plug directly into a standard 13 amp mains wall socket.

The PL-100 is also a desktop unit with a power cord.

The PLA-400, PLA-401 and P-660HWP will interoperate , but the PL-100 will not interoperate with them."

In addition, both of the links below say that you'll need Homeplug AV compatible products to connect.

    Lee,

Thanks for your response - but Andy, thanks even more for yours!

I think I'll hold hard for the moment - not wanting to be in a situation where, in fact, my certified HomePlug gadgets (which are V1.0 spec) aren't compatible.

    Cheers

    Bob
