    Motherboard Sourcing - Annoyed

    Right.....
I try and be as loyal as possible to you fellas and i will also take whatever you tell me as the truth......but im BLODDY ANNOYED!

I rang last month trying to get a hold of the ABIT iX38 QuadGT.
I realised you used to to sell them but htye had disappeared from the site. Before i went anywhere else to buy i actually called up and asked if you could source one for me.
I was told 'NO' and that they are EOL and you wont stock them anymore.

Low and behold, you now have them.

Whats going on? They cant just appear from nowhere can they?

    Blitzen

Apologies - I can assure you at the time you were advised this product was End Of Life, this information was correct. Since then we have managed to source stock at a good price as manufacturers are selling of the huge stock they have of the iX38 Chipset. Due to the popularity of the board we made the decision to re-stock this item.

I can only apologies for any disappointment caused

    Best Regards

Beauty of it is.......my iX38 QuadGt runs fantastically whilst your (RMA'd) X48 is dead, cost nearly £100 more, AND! for the exception of you having to buy OTT DDR3, does absolutely nothin more than mine 'when/if' it works

    You made a bad choice

He's only just ordered the DFI board.

Having had both of the boards in question, my personal preference is the DFI, the IX38 cost £166 at launch (inc postage) - the DFI was available to preorder for 166 inc from scan, has a better bundle of stuff, more USB, overclocks better/more friendly, better BIOS.

I think he made a good choice

To be fair, you never liked this board anyway.
The latest bios make it runs very well and there is now nothing wrong in the BIOS settings.

The flaw that will never go away is the lack of freebies (and some of the things ABIT shouldve put in).
That is VERY POOR from ABIT.

there have been several reports of people being sent the PWM fan clips though so that just leaves the USB/firewire PCI plate that most (incl. me) would say should have been incl. in the bundle but that wasn't.

    & it's always been 1 of the cheaper X38s.

When did that latest BIOS appear?

When was the board released? 4 months ago? And is now EOL?

It wasn't that I never liked it, I wanted to like it, it was great on paper, it's just that there was so many problems with it at launch, I gave it 2 weeks and sent it back as it was unusable.

The thing is, cutting edge or not, the consumer shouldnt have to put up with a product that doesn't work properly at launch, and then for weeks/months afterwards, that's just ridiculous.

The DFI X48 shipping BIOS on the other hand, is rock solid and so far I haven't been able to make it go belly up.

It's EOL because of Intel not delivering more X38 chipsets not abit.
X48 retail launch has been delayed & delayed & delayed - it's something like 6 months late (& not due to product/production issues) so they ought to have half-decent BIOS on launch.

Makes you wonder, if there are no X38 chipsets available, and Abit aren't making a DDR2 X48 board, what exactly will people get if they have to RMA their IX38? IP35? Partial refund?

    Re: Motherboard Sourcing - Annoyed

    IX38 pool stock?
or perhaps 2 years down the line an IX38 or IX48 DDR3 mobo because by then DDR3 will be cheaper than DDR2 (going by DDR>DDR2)?
Really no different situation than many other mobo manufacturer face even today when a mobo goes obsolete.
