Region free player not region free

I just bought a Samsung HD870 dvd player which on the website claims to be region free, but it will only play region 2 dvds. Do I have to input a region hack code to make it work, and if so where can I find it?

google the DVD player there are lots of websites out there that list DVD players and if they can be made region free and what method to do this. Though if it is listed as region free it should be region free out the box.

Well I just tried the one that came up after I goggled it and it doesnt seem to work. I am slightly annoyed it isnt region free out of the box, it clearly says on scans site that it is.

Well if it's now as described then I would send it back and you will entitled to a full refund including your postage costs.

Well Id rather just get it working, if theres a simple solution Id much rather do that than go through the returns process. I have no dobut Scan would give me a refund, Ive had nothing but excellent service from them in the past, but I need a working region free player by Wednesday, so Ill wait to see what Scan have to say first. It seems odd that they would mark it as region free if it isnt a region free player.

The information we have is that this can be made region-free by the use of the following ;

turn on dvd player and make sure there's no dvd in closed tray

Now, press 'repeat' button and 'no disc' disappears in left corner
Input the following code 57538 if you have a R2 player
The current region code is now visible in left corner of the information on the screen.
press 9 for region code free
press 'Standby' and it should now be region free.

I tried that hack, I cant get the no disc to go away, no matter how many times I press repeat, or how long I hold it. Ive tried several times but it wont work.

I havent touched it, I literally got the player this morning.

Finally got it working, had to downgrade the firmware then it worked first time. Still, it was somewhat annoying to have to go through all of that.
