    Items going out of stock?

    Hi
    First Post!

Think Scan have let me down this week big time, ordered a new case (Zalman GT1000), and PSU (also Zalman) on wednesday. Get an email last night to say the case is out of stock, so called this morning to replace it with the Cosmos (dissapointed as I really wanted the other case, even if it was another £100). But anyway, these things happen, but though I would check the status on everything else, and now the PSU is out of stock! Damn it. So I've emailed to get that changed too, hopefully they can sort it monday!

Bit of a rant for my first post! Just annoyed at the mo!

Anyone else get this? I'm sure the likes of Ebuyer reserve your item as soon as you order it?

they just spent a load on a flashy new website when the money would have been better spent on sorting there order system out.

plenty of other places have what you want in stock m8, free delivery isnt everything

I didnt even get free delivery! Infact I still havent got a refund on the saturday delivery either.

Just read some other posts about the same thing, at least its not just me.

It seems to be Scan's biggest down point. Just hope they can get my stuff delivered tuseday as thats the only time someone gonna be at home! And hope that nothing else goes out of stock before then!

Re: Items going out of stock?

Welcome to my world. Seems like I'm waiting forever to get this PC. Sorted out the graphics card and now sorted out the case (which WAS already in stock by the time I ordered - I am annoyed that they don't reserve items in this way.) Hopefully it should be despatched tomorrow. If not.. well I may have to shop elsewhere unfortunately

Well, how can you be sure that other places don't just have websites that say it's in stock?

Is anyone aware of ANY e-tailers have have stock systems with real-time updates? I'm not. And if not, they'll always be a risk of orders having this issue. At least part of the problem is that when you add items to an order, it may well be in stock. But that doesn't mean it is by the time you submit the order. They could have sold a dozen, or depending on what it is, even more in that time.

And, of course, there's a balance between holding enough in stock be be reasonably sure of this not happening, and the cost of items. Part of the art of e-tailing is just-in-time stock control - ordering enough of an item to have more coming in as the old ones sell, but never having too much of an item in stock. If you hold too much of an item, you're tying up capital, increasing stock-holding costs, you need larger warehousing facilities and you risk prices being cut after you bought.

ALL of those factors will increase costs to buyers. And, of course, why do people buy from e-tailers in the first place? Well, several reasons (such as availability of items not available locally), but probably the single biggest reason is price. So, if you hold large quantities in stock and your costs, and hence prices, go up as a result, you'll lose customers because people will buy elsewhere where it's a quid or two cheaper .... despite that other place quite likely having lower stock levels.

Is Scan's stock system perfect? Seems not. But until real-time stock systems are used (if ever), there is going to be an element of this, wherever you go. And even a real-time stock system won't entirely solve it. You get stock errors and discrepancies, for a start, where the stock on the system proves to not be on the shelf. Or you get occasions when a batch is found to be incorrect, or faulty. And so on. No stock control system I've ever come across, and I mean NO stock system, is perfect ..... and in my accountancy days, I've certainly done audits on enough of them.

It's a fact of life, and of buying from e-tailers, that this is a risk. Of course, there's always popping down the road to PC World and picking it up in person? No, I thought not.

Re: Items going out of stock?

well im sorry but i dont agree, and have used sites with real time stock systems, just last week i was on danger dens site and took the last block, candcenntral also has real time as i took the last items from there as well.

i brought a gtx280 from scan, showing in stock, phone the order through to be told its out of stock, yet is shipped that day.

its crap and needs sorting out for a company that size.

if pc world had what i wanted i would have gone down there if it was the right price, sods law the only 2 places in the uk that had it were scan and overclockers, so out of desperation i used scan.

it just seems to me scan dont know what there doing any more, the old story of getting to big for there boots.

scans done nothing but upset me the past few months, fobbing me off with some damaged POS 2nd hand card assuming im retarded enough to fall for it, then having the balls to say a heat warped card must have been damaged in the post !!!

next they forget to put the credit back into my bank account, ebuyer on the other hand sorted my last RMA in a professional manner as i would have expected scan to..

i wouldnt have brought my card from them if it had not been for the fact BFG have a rma center in wales so i can bypass scan, or i would be sat waiting for another card to come into stock when they cant even give me a date for it to come in..

scan used to be so good. i do wonder if there another one of those companies that pay less for the goods with a reduced warranty and play the numbers game hoping not many break, when they do break they outright take the pee.

Regarding your own order, When I spoke to you over the phone you were told before you made payment that the card was out of stock, the reason why the card still showed in was that the remaining card was only just sold and the web site would be updated in 10 minutes accordingly. It was your choice as you must be aware that you provided card details and proceeded with the order. After the order was placed and as you have already been told through another post that, due to a cancelled order by another Customer 1 card became available and then allocated to your order, which was then shipped the same day.

You seem to be posting about this as a negative point, which I would really think it would be positive.

It sounds like what ever we would have done you wouldn’t have been happy, but we shipped your order same day so that is good service in our opinion and I can assure you we know what we are doing but maybe you need to be more aware of the information provided to you through the posts and by myself over the phone when the order was placed.

The issue with your card as I have already mentioned in your thread is on going, but as far as I can see from your latest post BFG are currently handling this for you as you have raised the RMA with BFG not SCAN. As an an option to help you, if the service centre is in the UK we can arrange for City Link to collect the card from yourself and delivery in to BFG at our cost.

Please contact our Returns dept so we can arrange this for you.

Re: Items going out of stock?

i was told in another post due to me raising this with BFG that you would not arrange collection as the RMA was not with you, i am now waiting for BFG's UK warehouse to arrange collection.

the item did not go out of stock in 10 minutes either, it showed in stock most of the day.

would you be happy if a major e-seller palmed you off with a B grade brown box 2nd hand damaged card ? i doubt it.

i have no issue with the BFG card and scan, the reason i brought it was due to there UK depot and the reviews on there customer support.

Re: Items going out of stock?

no thanks, BFG are deciding if it does need to be RMA'd or if there going to contact all customers of that card as i have found evidence that the entire batch may have the incorrect bios installed thanks to other memebrs of tech powerup forums that used the GPU tool to upload the bios to the database.

it appears im not alone suggesting you shouldnt sell any more of the cards until this has been confirmed, or your own inhouse testing of the cards confirms either way.
