    Re: RMA tested OK?

Yes Dell and their proprietary ways.

However as there were existing VGA cards in situ it may be reasonable to assume that one would just plug in and work, as the 84GS deosnt work on 2 machines that have 2 exisitng cards working in, and having tried other monitor and resolutions, it is a fair assumption the card may be faulty. If the OP had access to a non Dell PC it would have been nice to double check on that.

I am not so 'up' on Dell these days, but have upgraded ones in the past with generic VGA cards and had no issues. Is there any approved hardware list for their PC to check compatibility beforehand? Then at least if you knowingly buy something not on that list you may have issues and can approach it in a different way to just assuming a faulty component.

Next time try to ask in the forum beforehand or grill the sales dept if there are known compatible cards.

"If you'd specifically asked the Scan staff if this would work inside your machine, and they'd said yes, then you'd have a case for getting some of those costs waved."
In that case all costs as it would have failed to meet the advertised standard, ie unfit for the purpose that you were explicitly told it would be.

If you'd specifically asked the Scan staff if this would work inside your machine, and they'd said yes, then you'd have a case for getting some of those costs waved. As it was, you undertook a transaction for an item that you don't need, and thus it's unfair for Scan to bear the costs. It's not nice when it happens, but at the end of the day, it's life.
I returned the card myself on the off chance that it was a compatibility issue so I'm not asking SCAN to bear any cost.

****Please be aware if your returned goods are tested not faulty you will be liable to a charge of £15+vat for the return courier collection costs.****

I saw the above in an email from SCAN so it made me think suppose it is not faulty I'll be out of pocket and I still need a card.

I went for this card because I had 1 previously that worked with no problems whatsoever in a Dell Dimension 9150 & a Dell Optiplex GX280. This being the case there was no reason for me to believe there was going to be a compatibility issue with a Dell Precision Workstation 370. I have upgraded and put together quite a few Dell's and this is only the 2nd compatibility issue I've had.

Thanks rabbid. First bit of useful advice I've been given.

I returned the card myself and that was only £1.94p. That is why I suggested earlier that if anyone has a small item that they believe to be faulty "return it yourself" because £15+vat is a lot to lose if it isn't.

The lesson for you to learn here is read my post.

    1: I needed a card.

    2: I wanted that card.

3: I returned the card myself at a cost of £1.94p.

    4: I still need a card!

I need to learn how to edit my post and quote.
