Right. So you are willing to pay 25% extra for "peace-of-mind". You rate Scan and its legendary customer service too highly. And saying that a company would refuse my money because I was trying to save fellow forum members (even you) money is just unconvincing. Am I ment to regret what I said and start praising scan irrationally? I think I'll leave that to you. All I'm getting from the awsome CS is copy&paste forum replys.
Gotcha. I know where Scan stands, and hopefully helped a few people save a few quid, although totally unappreciated. I shall leave it at that, before I get pummled by your fellow worshipers.
Seems the only other thread eternal_fantasy has had any dealings with here is this one:

Guess, knocking OcUK for their prices was too easy and now decided to move onto scan
Seeing as you only buy "latest tech as it hits retail" I am wondering why you aren't interested in purchasing a 4870x2......
And for the record I won't pay 25% extra of peace of mind, others might though.
I do want a 4870x2 but I am waiting for prices to fall a bit, if you do not have the patience then you have other choices available to you.

What customer service do you need exactly to install a graphics card? If you're buying a £300+ graphics card it's a fairly safe bet that you're not new to computers.
And what if its DOA or blows up after 6 months?
The differences in CS when it comes to RMAs is night and day between the various UK e-tailers.
Everyone is happy to take your money and ship you something.....You find the differences in these companies when something goes wrong.

Have you read the return of graphics card threads on this forum lately? I think you will find scan are much the same as most etailers so paying a premium is a waste of money. This is the same situation as when the E8400 cpu first came out £130 at some etailers but scan chose to price them at £170 at one point and they were claiming to be one of intels premier customers. I find it strange that one of intels premier customers gets charged more but make your own mind up.

From what I have seen all those people were returning budget level cards over a year old that were EoL. The warranty on a HD4870x2 will run out before it becomes EoL. The problem was with the manufacturer (mainly XFX) not living up to expectations rather then 100% Scan's fault. You can find horrer stories for every retailer on the web.
Give it 1-2 weeks and everyone will be at around the same price. Buying a top of the range CPU or GPU in the first week it is released is never a great idea.
I bought a Sapphire HD4870X2 for £320 (inc VAT) + delivery yesterday, I have it sat on my desk next to me today.
That blows the "prices are always sky high in week 1-2" justification out of the window really. I have some sympathy for Scan on a business level if they weren't/aren't able to negotiate a decent deal from their AMD account manager, but at the end of the day a price differential of ~£80 is too significant to write off.
I have just received information that we had received 20 x 4870 X2 cards, however the manufacturer sent the wrong cards to SCAN so they are unsalable.
Sorry for the delay guys, we are not impressed and are already speaking to the supplier's to get this sorted.
We will keep you updated
Hey,
im looking to build a new computer and i was wondering if this rig would suite the 4870X2, and if you have an ETA on the stock that would be great?
Xclio A380 Tower Silver Case
4GB memory 1066mhz
1TB samsung hard drive
Intel E8500 Core2 3.16GHZ
Asus P45 pro motherboard
700W PSU
DVD/RW
24" 1950x1200 PC Monitor
So i was wondering if to get the 4870X2 or the GTX280
and also if you have any suggestions on the rig
Cheers
Will
