    Question 1TB Samsung HD103UJ Spinpoint F1 HDD

    Hi there,

Any chance of selling the 1TB Samsung HD103UJ Spinpoint F1 HDD (Scan Code: LN20978) for under £70 in the TodayOnly offers this week or today would be good?

It was in Today Only earlier this week. I should know, I paid nearly £85 for mine a month ago!
Every time I see it, the price drops even more.

It wasn't below the £70 mind, i've emailed the man who can so fingers crossed it will be on TodayOnly today or by the end of the week so I can order it in time 4 Christmas delivery, I also brought the drive back in July and paid £90 odd and then again in August and paid around £83 odd, but it's that time again as I'm running low on space so I need another.

Just ordered another Samsung 1TB drive for £71.01, not quite under £70 but still not 2 bad methinks.

Well I've had one since July and it's not let me down and another since August which is now my primary drive partitioned for both XP and Vista, they work great, don't run too hot and very quiet.

I've had nine Samsung F1 drives (in total from about 6 separate batches):
3 750GBs - one got the click of death (if you drive starts clicking loudly a lot, now is the time to backup), another trashed the first gig or so of the disk soon after (wouldn't get through the EStool), both RMAed

6 1TB drives - one DOA, another died 2 days later ... four have survived so far.

So thats 9 drives, 4 failed in less than 6 months. I will not buy samsung again, at least for a very long time.

For those still keen (there will be a hundred people who can post on here saying they are great, no problems) note that these do not work in RAID, full stop ... they have a habit of dropping out with the drive self-testing for extended periods. There are a ton of reported problems too with them with Intel chipsets ... the ones I have left are hanging off silicon image sata cards as single drives.

If you want a sure fire sign that there are problems, the firmware is upto version 13 in less than a year (my earliest drives were v8) - i've bought drives from other ranges nearly a year apart and they come with the same version.

    Caveat emptor as ever ...

Maybe they just don't like your PC setup? OR maybe you don't have enough system power to support the HDDs?
Treat em nice and hopefully they should survive, all my drives are cooled and run off my Asus P35 Blitz Formula SE motherboard SATA3's chipset, I don't use RAID as i've had nothing but problems with it in the past so therefore don't trust it, the SATA2 HDD's run fast enough as it is so don't need it, I backup my data elsewhere anyways.

These F1's that died on you, we're they all purchased from Scan or another supplier?
    >As I only trust Scan for my HDD purchases as I've never once had one die on me when purchased from Scan unlike other suppliers...
