    E5200 + Abit I-G31 and other things

    Evening all.

My parents PC died, and I picked up an E5200(LN23991) and an Abit I-G31(LN23010) bundle as a replacement from last Sundays 'Today only' section(I notice its still there this week too). Apon assembling everything, it seems that the motherboard is only running the processor as a "Pentium Dual Core 1.2ghz(200x6.0)". I had a look at the Abit website for that board, and it seems that the E5200 is classified as 'test' in the result, whatever that means. Surely scan would not sell them as a bundle if they were not compatible?

I tried installing Windows XP, but it hits a BSOD after it loads drivers etc

Also, along with that order, I ordered a PSU(400W FSP Blue storm II) from the today only section as well. It appears to be DOA, as it does not start when plugged into the board, or plugged into the PSU tester that was bundled with it. I had to dismantle my own computer to borrow the power supply from it to test the rest of the components were ok. I assume that this would be a straight RMA?

I've got memtest running at the moment to rule out the memory as the cause of any of the problems.

Id be thankful if anyone could shed any light on the situation,

    Regards

    PeterTM

    Pentium Dual Core 1.2ghz(200x6.0)
    Is this with the BIOS?

If idle the CPU should be running 200x6 if you have EIST/C1E enabled, then under load it would rise to 2.5 Ghz (using the multiplier) but that wouldn't work unless in Windows.

You could try manually upping the multiplier.

Yeah that would be energy saving EIST/CIE, just turn it off.

With the BSOD have you got any other intel CPU's to work with, even celrons etc.
    Scan FTW

Re: E5200 + Abit I-G31 and otehr things

    Thanks for your responses,

    Is this with the BIOS?
Yeah, thats what it shows at the bootscreen. I tried disabling speedstep anyway, but it didnt make a difference

have you got any other intel CPU's to work with, even celrons etc.
The only other one I have is a Q6600 in my own pc, and I don't really want to have to take it apart again.

I'll try updating the bios suggested in the thread in the abit care forums, hopefully that's the problem.

    Update:

Ok, bios flashing fails. It Fails with the message 'Unknown Flash Type' When using awflash downloaded from the Abit website, and the m725m_13.bin linked to in this post. I cant find any way to manually change the multiplier, or for that matter anything else apart from memory timings on this board.

    Update 2:

Got Windows XP to install. Turns out it didnt like the sata drivers for the dvd drive. Installing using an IDE drive worked fine. Processor is still stuck at 1.2Ghz and ive disabled speedstep and C1E. Ill wait and see if scan can provide any insight into the problem before filing for a RMA on the power supply. If i have to send things back, id prefer to do it all in one go.

Sounds like it just lacks the proper bios recognition, you should be able to change the cpu config yourself though, I'd be surprised if the option doesn't exist.
