1GB Sapphire HD 4870 Toxic Q re HDMI

1GB Sapphire HD 4870 Toxic Scan code
    Scan code LN26502
    Manufacturer code 11133-14-20R

I am considering purchasing this card and have a couple of questions.

The specs state "Built-in HDMI with 7.1 surround sound support On-chip HDCP, HDMI Output Support". The card comes with two DVI out connectors and the package comes with a DVI to HDMI convertor. So if I connect this to a compliant HDCP TV via HDMI does it this card provide sound to the TV via the HDMI connection?

How long is the card in inches or centimeters from front (PCI bracket) to back (power connectors end) ?

    Thanks....

The 4000 series cards are all capable of audio through DVI to HDMI adaptor. A specific audio driver is installed onto the computer which allows the loop through DVI/HDMI.

It's difficult to gauge the length of the card. Are you just wondering whether it will fit in your case? If so just let us know which case you're using and we can follow up then

    All the best,
Yes I am wondering if it will fit in my case. The case is the Zalman LQ1000 Z-Machine.

    Thanks....

Any news? I am anxious waiting to find out if this will fit in my case before purchasing. I have ascertained 10.5in for the nVidia 260 would be a tight fit.

The sapphire 4870 512mb edition (its got a similar cooler to the toxic edition) I have is:

    3.5cm thick (depth)
    24cm long (width)
    9.8cm wide (height)

Approximately. Give or take a few 0.x cm's

Ps. Why not consider a 4890, now that they have been released and are in stock?

Re: 1GB Sapphire HD 4870 Toxic Q re HDMI

    Hi

I am considering the 512MB version of the Sapphire HD 4870 Toxic (Scan code LN25368) and would also like to know how big it is (same as the 1GB I assume). I am guessing it has to be smaller than a GTX 260 which I have been told is a bit of a squeeeeze in an Antec 300.

I don't really want to have to resort to mole grips to fit a gfx card as the case is relatively new.

    many thanks.

(btw is it generally cheaper to pre-order an item than to wait for stock or an ETA? Not in a rush, just interested)

I've had a quick look using various search engines and trying to find the card length is practically impossible. It's not on any PDF documentation, nor is it on any of the sapphiretech websites.

I would have got 1 from stock and got the trusty tape measure out, but we have no stock at the present time so I cannot measure these for you.

Re: 1GB Sapphire HD 4870 Toxic Q re HDMI

Thanks for trying, I could find anything either!

Don't know how accurate this image is but I scaled it in Illustrator based on the length of the PCIe x16 slot which I measured at 85mm on my motherboard.

    (where there's a will there's a way!)

There is about 280mm between the back plate and the hard drive cage on the Antec 300 so it should fit if is out of the way of the drives. It seems that the power socket is at the end of the card rather than on the top so that could also cause issues for some.

Re: 1GB Sapphire HD 4870 Toxic Q re HDMI

Ok thanks everybody, I get the impression from the photograph details the card length in the photo is 100mm and the PCI connector 32mm . So 100mm/32mm*85mm, it going to be about 10.5".

So as the cards are all about the same length, but nVidia cards have power plug on the side rather than the end and I can barely fit 10.5 inch in my case so nVidia it will have to be. The Palit GTX275 looks good at the price.

To be honest it is pretty daft this information is not available on the manufacturers web site.

Just about to press the buy icon then I noticed the specs on Scan.co.uk state HDCP Ready: No. Is that right or has somebody messed up with the spec? I thought all these cards were HDCP ready nowadays?
