    Clicking Seagate 7200.11 1.5G

    Hi,

I bought a Seagate 1.5Gb HDD. Built the computer, installed Windows 7 on it... it took forever, I didn't know why. Then I noticed the clicking. The computer would freeze every so often and crash and I'd get Windows error report about disk access. S.M.A.R.T. status via Sisoft Sandra reports crazy value well out of the normal range. I wnet to Seagate website for firmware checking and entered my serial number, they claim that my HD doesn't suffer from any problem :-(

    How do I proceed next?

Instead of getting an identical replacement, could I return it in exchange of 2 * WD or Samsung 1TB paying the difference. I've read around the net and I am not sure I have any confidence in these Seagates anymore.

    Thanks

Sorry to hear about your clicking Seagate, I had two of this range of drives die on me in about 4 months. Like yours they were taking a long time to access the drive (slower than an old maxtor sata 1 drive I had kicking around) and one of them was doing the ticking thing before it became completely undetectable in the Bios, tried it in an external case couldn't be found there either.

I'd back up any data you have on the drive as it doesn't sound too good.

You only need to take a look on the Seagate forums to see how bad these problems are, even on models they say don't have the issue. I'd never use Seagate (or Maxtor now they're Seagate owned) products again.

Hope you get your prob sorted.

if you've not already logged this with the returns team then I would by using the link Here

If you include any questions relating the the replacement, they will be able to answer these as well.
