First time buying, what will I need?

Hi, I'm looking to buy a scan I3 OC smart edition from scan. I have been using laptops for the past 6 years so I'm not entirely sure what I'll need. I've been looking at some monitors for this desktop and I'm unsure whether they will work. This is due to whether it is a VGA or DVI etc. Any help on this? Thanks

Depends what you're concerned about, but (I'm guessing?) if you're bothered about using vga monitors, where a machine only has dvi as long as the dvi is DVI-I (look up "DVI" on wikipedia) then you can get an adaptor to make your VGA monitor work. Generally you get this adaptor with new graphics cards/machine... but not always.

    Hi Nick,

The majority of monitors will come with both DVI and VGA, these are always listed under either special features or tech spec. The system can be used with any connectivity method for monitors, through the use of adaptors if need be, or preferrably, we'll match up the monitor and your system if you wish.

Re: First time buying, what will I need?

    I think I've got it.
If the Monitor im looking at has a DVI-D connection like most do it should work with the DVI-I which is in the computer.
    Is this correct?
    Once again Thanks

Re: First time buying, what will I need?

    As I understand it, Yes...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital...face#Connector

DVI-I is an all encompassing compatible connector (with the right adaptor) for VGA - DVI - HDMI... Interestingly hdmi "is" DVI with a different connector and some other bits and bobs, ya learn something every day eh?
