Come on get real, its an OEM key tied to the laptop bios, you can walk to comet and find the same key on that manufactures laptops. This is certainly against the spirit of the DSR at the very least

I feel Scan are basically using this as an excuse to get out of their obligation to refund a LAPTOP under DSR.

redddraggon is absolutely bang on the money, and which has been pretty much my point all a long, if scan valued customer service AT ALL they would of refuned it, irrespective of anything here, this is flat out terrible, indefensible customer service! And I intend to let as many people as possible know about it.

Letting as many people know about it because you arent getting your own way and dont like being told no?

You problem is you have asked for the opinions of far too many people, a majority of whom who have given you false advice/ information.

No, telling people abouts my poor customer service experience at the hands of scan, thought I'd made that clear.

At some point the thread needs to end at I feel the thread is at this point, we haven't removed any posts but I have edited 2 of your posts as derogatory comments at SCAN and the user's posting in favour of SCAN. You have the right to post publicly and wherever you else you feel is right bit do so as long as it meets the rules of the particular forum. We are genuinely acting as we feel is according to Licensing and DSR laws.

You disagree, other member's disagree but some also agree with us. ..

I suggest you speak with Trading standards as suggested and we can work directly with them, but this thread isn't going to turn into a " slanging match, which seems to be at the early stages of it turning into.

Keep it respectful or this thread will be locked.

We are also monitoring the other threads you have posted in and anything derogatory we will contact the owners of the site and request anything, which breaches any rules of the particular to be removed.

    Thanks

Re: Having real issues returning a laptop under DSR to scan

It's a difficult one to say but I can't see a problem returning it as long as he can prove the laptop is still sealed and never been switched on. The only thing I'm lost on is wouldn't the only seal be on the box and not the laptop itself. You must of opened the laptop lid if you stated it was no good because of the viewing angles?

I feel for you as a lot of companies would accept returns like Amazon and Tesco etc but then again that is because they can afford to. Personally (no disrespect to Scan) I wouldn't buy a laptop from companies like Scan simply for the reason your having unless I saw the laptop in the flesh first.

I think sometimes Scan do take the letter of the law too much over customer service but I suppose it's their choice.

Re: Having real issues returning a laptop under DSR to scan

This is actually raising a really important thought in my mind...hypothetically speaking this now affects more and more of the things we buy if the stance Scan takes is industry standard...

TV's...internet enabled TV's now have software on them, so unless faulty you cannot return it under DSR's
Cars...Microsoft Sync is going in mor and more cars, so you wouldn't be able to return them unless faulty
Phones...Your phone has licensed software, so can't be returned...but then again, the networks all offer a period of refusal on a handset, even if its been used if you find you don't like it.

It strikes me its not consistent for the consumer, and veyr much orientated to box shifting manufacturers who know onces its opened there is no comeback - at the end of the day this will kill any manufacturer who goes exclusive with a retailer - they would have to be mental to do so if this interpretation is widespread.

Me thinks this law needs to be looked at - I simply do not see any reason for buying a laptop online anymore (well with the exception of Amazon as they don't follow this sort of rule in the same way and have some of the best customer service I have ever experienced...)...and the problem will only get worse if its not adapated to take into account the 'internet buying' era.
Please do not message me about Scan Free shipping, I no longer work for HEXUS.net

Re: Having real issues returning a laptop under DSR to scan

From a quick google, it IS being looked at as a 'known issue' in consumer law.
