Please suggest parts for a mega custom PC!

I would like to build a PC with the following parts from Scan:

    • Windows 7 64-Bit Pro
    • 8 Core CPU
    • 16 MB RAM
    • 2 of the fastest Sata III SSD Hard Drives (100 GB each)
    • 4 Bluray Writer Drives
    • 10 USB 3.0 ports
    • Gigabit Ethernet
    • Fanless Graphics Card. Ideally I would like to know before buying if it works with the PSX and ePSXe emulator.
    • 5.1 sound card with optical out
    • HDMI and DVI port
    • Motherboard to fit all of the above

I'm only interested in parts with 3 stars. My current PC is a £300 Dell machine I bought over 5 years ago. The fan is pretty quiet so I can barely hear it above my music so I'd like a similar sounding PC. My dad recently bought a PC from Dell and it sounded hollow inside and I could hear that horrible "processor" sound which sounds like a CPU processor hard at work. I don't want to hear that in my new PC.

    So far I've got this:

    £30 - EVGA 1GB GeForce G 210 GDDR3 NVIDIA Graphics Card

Windows 7 64-Bit Professional supports up to 192 GB of RAM but how exactly do you fit that much RAM into the PC as there aren't enough RAM slots?

Unrelated question: I noticed an ssd to sata converter on scan. What are those for?

whats the plans for the pc?

if you are planning to play games, dont get a £30 graphics card. Spend more for a better one. Some of the good ones run quiet.

If you are getting a 8 core cpu, the fan will be noisy no matter what.

also why 4 blue ray dvd writers????

Any more ram than 8gb for gaming and waste of time. 16gb ram good for high end design software. i can imagine server pcs have even more ram.

This is what we'd really need to know before suggesting any suitable configurations.

If you can give us more information related to what your going to be doing, we should be able to advise you further.

    Best Regards,

You should have mentioned the emulator usage in this thread:

    http://forums.hexus.net/cpus/248993-...ost-cores.html

Emulators tend to be lightly threaded and need decent lightly threaded performance.

Since you are also doing a lot of video encoding work,I would be looking at either a Xeon E3 if you don't want to overclock or a Core i7 2600K or Core i7 3770K if you intend to overclock. The FX8120 and Phenom II X6 1045T for around £100 would be great for video encoding, but the Intel CPUs will have much better performance with emulators AFAIK.

Actually, looking at the other threads the OP has started, they might probably also want to consider a six core SB-E CPU too, but this will be £400+ plus the more expensive socket 2011 motherboards.

Re: Please suggest parts for a mega custom PC!

What 8 core are you planning? The FX8120/8150 are slower than the Intel 3570k at the same price bracket and the 8120 uses a TONE more power. If you want to multi-task (beyond 4 cores) grab a 3770k, they hyper threading means it'll destroy any of the FX bulldozer chips.
If you want AMD - go with the one of the Phenom II x6 processors.
If you want more than 6 physical cores (even though 4 cores will act like 8 cores) from Intel your going to have to spend mega bucks and get a Xeon (but unless your running a server theres no point).

As for the SSD the Samsung 830 is one of the fastest 128GB SSDs (in the consumer market).
Also if you want a 'monster' system, grab 32GB ram and convert around 20GB to a RAMdisk.

Finally, fanless graphics card??? I understand why? Only the low-end cards tend to be fanless & with a system like the one your suggesting, personally, I wouldnt feel happy with any 'budget' components that could create huge potential bottle necks.
If you dont require top-end graphics something like a HD 6850 or even a HD 6670 should get you by fine.

How much are you planning to spend, that usually helps
