    Scan Systems

Hey, i was just wondering how scan secure their systems during transit, both inside (GPU/CPU heat sink) and outside the case (Stop case being banged up, could put them in the original case box i guess)?

And on a separate note but i can't be bothered to start a new thread, how do scan overclock their bundles without an OS ie bundles that are simply CPU, mobo, ram and CPU heat sink?

    Re: Scan Systems

First off, you should note that this is my experience from just over 1 year ago, may have changed since then.

Outside, they go straight into the normal box. Inside, they fill the entire thing with bubble-wrap which you remove when you receive it.

Also, it's delivered specially - not by your average courier. For the same price, I had the person come in and unpack everything so I could guarantee it worked before they left. IIRC they originally used couriers, but they weren't being careful enough with the systems so now it's a specialist service.

Regarding your final point on bundles, overclocking is done outside of the OS, on the motherboard's BIOS/EFI system. Your computer boots into its overclocked stage long before the OS is invoked. Those settings can be saved directly onto the motherboard, so my presumption would be that this is what they do - although I've never bought one, so I don't know.

What do you mean special? One just for delivering fragile stuff or something?

Yeah i know that. Sorry i didn't explain myself. I meant how do they stress test it? Because they can't just have an one voltage fits all because there are always exceptions ie my 3570k requires 1.31 for 4.4 GHz and 1.36 for 4.5 GHz.

Frankly, I've no idea. When I bought it, they referred to the courier as "Netsolve", but they don't appear to exist on Google. The guy who delivered mine seemed to do nothing but deliver PCs for Scan, at least on that occasion. I'm guessing he just stuck PCs in the back of a van/car in Bolton, and then drove to the destination and passed them on. Either way, it's not really a courier at all.

Well, they sell PCs without operating systems as well. If you choose not to have an operating system installed, it used to say something like "System tested under Windows 7 Ultimate" or whatever. I would assume that they attach a hard disk, stress test it, then once they're happy with the settings disassemble it all again and stick it in the post, minus the disk and OS of course.

As far as I know, Scan use DPD as a courier who frankly have always delivered excellent service. You get a 1 hour timeslot for delivery sent via. SMS on the delivery day, and the courier will ensure you are entirely happy with what you have received before leaving. They engage with social media (Twitter/Facebook) very closely, and their telephone customer service has always been more than helpful -
It seems they have invested heavily in technology used for delivery tracking. The feedback is very good across social media sites and independent resources such as Trustpilot. If you have an issue with delivery I would be very surprised. However I'm always interested to hear individual experiences. Let us know how it goes!

Not for PCs though, which is what this thread is all about.
