    Carrage £9.15 on a £11 item

Your having a laugh aren't you.

Needless to say, I didn't proceed with the order.

It was a compact keyboard, not a very big item.

    Silly charges.

Might be useful to link / provide the LN number so they can look into it? Not a lot they can do if you don't give any more info than it's a keyboard.

You should do a couple of things, first get your post count up to 20 constructive posts and then register for your free shipping from scan and finally place an order for £20+ VAT to get your items sent with free delivery.

Doesn't matter which keyboard, its a standard charge. Pick random keyboard, add to basket, £9.15 carrage

    For example:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/geniu...number-pad-usb

    Item Price: £5.10
    Carriage: £9.15

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/dicot...ort-usb-20-hub

    Item Price: £2.98
    Carriage: £9.15

Buy them through Scan on eBay and its Postage: £4.98 Express Delivery

Even if the delivery mechanism is different, the website should offer the alternate cheaper delivery option on such low value items. Obviously if I was ordering a lot, delivery pails into insignificance, but I often need just 1 item, and charges like this mean that I have to consider other sellers.

In this case I happened to stumble across the ebay alternatives and it just so happened it was still from scan.

Yep, if there's a minimum courier charge then you can expect to pay a minimum price for delivery - the margin on low cost items is small enough they're not going to sell to you at a loss!

SCAN are not really the kind of shop you just pick up a cable or keyboard from, they're more suited to selling to system builders or significant upgraders.

The minimum charge has gone up significantly then recently - it was only £4.16 3 months ago. £3.99 10 months ago

+ why the disparity between their ebay charges and their scan.co.uk charges? basically at the moment if I purchase through their main website I am being charged an extra £4.50

These products have not yet been added to the £4.16 + VAT carriage, but if you refresh in the next few minutes they will have been added.

I hope this appeases the comment of " sort it out "

Thank you for "sorting it out" and so quickly too

    But begs the question(s) though...

Why were they set to the £9.15 carriage charge in the first place?
Also why the difference between eBay and the main website?
How many other products have the incorrect carriage charge assigned to them?

Perhaps the system for assigning charges should be reviewed - if its not working ^^

    Re: Carrage £9.15 on a £11 item

We don't specifically set products to £ 9.15 this is the standard option, but we specifically, manually set products to £ 4.16 carriage, it just seems these were missed, there are also products in other Keyboard categories I am adding to the cheaper charge today.

E-Bay is a new shop we have recently launched so to promote the shop carriage charges are cheaper for some products.

Oh, the joys of automation, it's supposed to make life easier, which in most cases I'm sure it does.

I didn't realise the eBay shop was new, I've bought a monitor from there for my father in law.

It doesn't instil much confidence in the delivery charge amounts of anything on the website. Why not determine the delivery charge when entering the item onto the system? Or, make £4.16 the default and increase it for the bulkier items.

Let the buyer beware of delivery charges I guess when ordering from scan website.

I think for most big online retailers product listings are generated automatically, possibly using a data link from the distributor that is used by the site's back-end system to incorporate the data on to their own content management system, generate a new SKU code when required and add it to the site generating a report for the site admins. I very much doubt that every item is added on manually, I think as much as possible will be automated with integrated links between Scan's warehouse and their distributor's system which reduces the margin for error with things like ensuring deliveries are free from discrepancies, this may also help Scan and their distributor work more closely together to adjust stock holding levels so that they get more stock of items that sell well and reduce stock ordering on items that are not selling as well. This also allows eretailers to rapidly respond to prices changes, particularly where the distributor is able to offer lower priced products or has special bulk deals on popular items.

All this does mean that sometimes things like delivery charges will need to be adjusted manually when new lines are added to the stock file using the reports generated by the system when this happens, but had it all been done done manually I think we would see far more pricing and other errors creeping into the system than we do.

    Re: Carrage £9.15 on a £11 item

    Mehuge

Products as standard are assigned a category carriage weight and also amended individually where required.

Products added to £ 4.16, the carriage will increase as the basket updates, products are added manually to £4.16 as we don't have laser scanner measuring the package dimensions for this to be automated.

Everything can't be made £4.16 as not everything fits into the Express Packs DPD charge us less for,

If you have concerns of any deliveries that don't match up to the carriage costs via the link, let us know

    http://www.scan.co.uk/information/delivery.aspx

    Best Regards
