    Let down on service

    Hi

Just wanted to add my comments on what was very dissapointing service from Scan. I purchased a Gtx 570 a couple of years ago which developed a fault and being under warrenty i returned it to Scan. They confirmed it was broken and returned it to MSI for replacement. MSI didnot have a replacement as the card is too old and Scan have offered me a reconditioned 570 as a replacement. I do not want a reconditioned 570 replacement as the new one i bought doesnt work, so i am reluctant to accept a repaired replacement.

Scan have offered a refund but as you will no doubt be aware it comes with the clause "valued at what is left on the warranty" as the card is old i doubt it will be worth more than a couple of quid.

I am not here to rant or flame just wanted to point out what i consider to be a let down in customer service. I bought from Scan based on their customer service adverts, I know that an old Gtx 570 cant be replaced with a new card and that £200 quid two years ago isnt a lot of money, but in the current climate i will find it hard to raise enough money to buy a new card even with a partial refund from Scan.

To get to this point has taken a month of emails - so i will cut my losses and vote with my feet and buy elsewhere when i get enough to replace the card which is gauranteed for 3 years but lasted 2...MSI never again.

Be mindful that if your device is obsolete when it breaks even if its under waranty you are unlikely to get a fraction of what you paid for it.

    thanks

    Chris H

    Re: Let down on service

To be fair, a reconditioned item that is the same model as what you sent back seems like a fair offering.

A couple of year old non working card being replaced with the same model but working, what's to grumble at?

    Re: Let down on service

This is clearly MSI's area of fault rather than SCAN, and to be fair they tried to be fair and give you a working same model GFX which most retailers would do alot less.

Yeah. I have to agree a reconditioned card is getting you back to where you started and when/if this dies two years down the line you would most likely not want it then as it will be three or four generations behind the current models on the market. I would accept the offer of a replacement and then get a Gigabyte when I next buy a new GPU.

As for the warranty with Scan, to the best of my knowledge the warranty with them is only over the first twelve months and after that it would usually be direct through MSI. At least in physical retail shops it works that way so if you go to claim in year two of a three year warranty the shop will give the manufacturers contact details. But I am constantly confused by my consumer rights and related issues etc.

    Re: Let down on service

Sounds like Scan have been perfectly fair to me. Replacing a 2-year old GPU with a matching reconditioned model doesn't leave the customer any worse off. You're in the same position as if your original hadn't broken; with a used, but working Gtx 570. That's all Sale of Goods Act (and contract law generally) requires.

Thanks for your comments all, perhaps I was unfair and just raging at the loss of card more than anything. If you think scan are being fair I will email and except the replacement with my apologies.

    Cheers

    Re: Let down on service

It happens to us all from time to time, sometimes we get so blinded by rage that we can't see a good thing when it's staring us in the face.

I hope you enjoy the replacement card as much or if not more than the one it replaced.
