Delayed order - advice needed from Scan

I ordered a USB pocket hard drive yesterday and was expecting it to be shipped today for delivery tomorrow. Unfortunately i've just received a delayed order notification (due to a 'temporary shortage in stock') with the drive not expected until 31/05/06! The Scan site showed the drive to be in stock when I ordered it.

I needed it tomorrow as I am going away for a couple of weeks next week and wanted to use it on Friday and Saturday. Could someone at Scan advise me on what options I have please as this is particularly disappointing, especially as the item was supposedly in stock when I ordered it.

    Hi Taz,

Sorry for the delay to your order.

I can't amend the order at the moment ( as I'm at home ) but if you can confirm which version you ordered I could suggest an alternative now and then change your order in the morning for you.

    Regards

Thanks ChrisP - I originally ordered the "80 GB Freecom FHD-2 Pro". The link to the product page is:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=115950

I really like the design (I'm not bothered about the sync facility on this drive by the way). I need something 80GB - 120GB that can run on USB power alone and is very portable (i.e. a true pocket drive as the FHD-2 Pro's seem to be). I'm not really bothered about cost (within reason!).

If I could get one shipped to me tomorrow to receive it by Friday then that would be ideal and I would be able to transfer the stuff I need for my travels next week over the weekend.

    I appreciate your help.

    Taz

I'd just like to say a big 'thanks' to ChrisP. He amended my order to one of the alternative products that he kindly suggested yesterday and i've already got the dispatched e-mail from Scan. Yes, it cost me a bit more in the end as it was a bigger disk drive but the service from Scan (in particular, ChrisP) was first-rate.

Thanks, ChrisP. I appreciate all you've done to resolve my 'delayed order' issue.

I find the Delayed Order Notification somewhat annoying - it arrives in the early evening, giving no chance to make alternative arrangements if something is urgent :

Case in point, I made a small ~ish order yesterday, in the early afternoon, on the website and called a few minutes later to check true availability etc of all items. The guy on the phone (David, I believe) was really helpful and noted that one item was out of stock so we worked out a suitable replacement - this was around 3pm - and I was assured that there should now be no problem with the order going out that day. So, I was happy, as I particularly required part of this order for the weekend....until I get home to find an email at 19:18 advising that the order had been delayed ! So now I will not be getting the order in time for the weekend, not even until Tuesday next week at the earliest because of the Bank Holiday (not that the Bank Holiday is Scan's fault !) and have no time to take alternative action in getting the parts I really needed quickly ! I find this very frustrating ! So, my only option was to phone and cancel the entire order, hoping that perhaps some magic wand could be waved and there may have been a solution (Saturday delivery at no charge ??) but was only faced with a notable cost option or tough luck ! So, suffice to say, I had no choice but to cancel the order....

My gripe is, I went to extra lengths to ensure that all items actually were in stock and that the order was to go out on Thursday, feeling confident in what I had been told on the phone, only to get Delayed Order notice in the early evening, by which time there were no options left to me !
