Hi, ive got a question about RMAing my 480W Tagan TG480-U01 power supply.
First, some background. I bought the PSU in March 2004 and when it arrived i was dissapointed to find it had some scratch marks along one of the edges where the case comes apart, and the 'warranty void if removed' seal was broken (Click the thumbnail below for a closeup). I didnt particularly care about the scratches as they are small but i was concerned about the warranty of my PSU, particularly with it being an expensive PSU with a long 3yr warranty period.

I immediately logged a query on the website about this, and was given the explanation (see picture above) that the units had to be open to replace EU power leads with UK power leads, and that my warranty with scan would be upheld. It seemed a bit of an odd explanation, particularly as i didnt recieve any power lead, but it said my warranty was good so that was fair enough, i figured i never need to use it anyway, but...
As youve no doubt already figured out, if only becaues it was the first thing i said heh, i now want to use the warranty. The problem i have is that it is making a constant ticking noise. I dont know how long its been doing it, ive never really noticed it and the computer it was in was a server box stuck out of the way which was never off so the noise woulda been drowned out by fans and hard drives anyway. But ive just started using it in my browsing etc comp, which is off quite a lot and whenever it is off i can hear this litle kackle coming from the PSU. I dont know if its indicative of a serious problem but its certainly getting annoying and incase it does signal impending doom i want it sorted out, hence dilema.
On checking the product listing for the PSU on the scan website, it says Tagan PSUs are to be returned directly to a company called Nanopoint. However if i RMA it to them isnt there a good chance they will turn round and say its void ? I dont want to be without the PSU as well as going to the expense (the thing weighs a tonne so its going to cost a lot to post) of sending it away only to get nowhere. Is it possible for me to RMA it to scan instead, or can you provide me some sort of assurance Nanopoint wont shaft me ?
Thanks, Robbie.
