ASUS P5W DH AND LIGHTSCRIBE DVD compatibility issue

Hi all. I may have found a serious compatibility issue with several light scribe drives and the Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard

System Asus P5W DH Deluxe running Raid 1 on Intel ich7 SATA ports and windows xp sp2
    Bios revisions tried 0701, 1301 and 1406
DVD drive attached on PATA using Asus Cdrom cable.

I have a HP DVD 840i which has worked fine in old Pentium 3 pc for a while now and I have also a new hpdvd which had same problem on asus board, which ruled out faulty DVD drive. However on moving this drive to the new Asus P5W DH Deluxe board and using Raid config on the ICh7 it would install not always boot form any cd e.g. winxp or the asus one.

I tried a non light scribe DVD drive Samsung and this worked 100%. Went to scan this time with pc to save 2 journeys if anything was not working and the tech department refunded HP DVD and said get Nec or Lite-on drive. As I have lots of light scribe media the NEC one was not an option as this uses label flash..

Light on drive did not work either started copying files from dvd to pc and get errors and in event log. Scan Tech person said it was irq conflict but I am not convinced as normal Samsung drive worked fine. After the light on I tried the new samsung 18x light scribe DVD drive and is working fine.

    several errors appear

    1) Event id 51 An error was detected on device \Device\CdRom0 during a paging operation.

    2) Event id 7The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block.

If you use the asus cd whcih you boot from then it will not boot and comlains or CRC read errors.

Winxp cd says files are corrupt but i know 100% all cds used are fine.

have you tried the drive in both master and slave?, as i had an old HP 4x dvdrw that wouldnt work on my system and would cause long boot times in windows until i set the drive as master, failing that then possibly a firmware upgrade?

I also have this issue. I have the P5W motherboard from ASUS. I started getting paging errors in the event log and the drive started taking ages to burn CD's and DVD's so I returned it for a new drive. All was fine for a little while but now I cannot burn lightscribe labels.

    Anyone know a resolution yet?
