    Soundcard problems - CD Damaged

    Hi,

    I've just taken delivery of some stuff including an X-Fi soundcard and some 5.1 headphones.

    As I was putting the creative CD in the drive I noticed a star shaped crack in the disk. Looks like someone has thrown a dart at it !!

    Anyway I tried it and some stuff loaded but there was a problem with the driver. Kept getting an error about a bad parameter !

    So I tried the creative web site. There is a new driver for XP, but not for Win2K that I use. Their site helpfully offers to sell a replacement CD !

    So I tried exploring the DVD and under audio/drivers I found something that looked promising. The app wasn't very "flashy", it just said "installing drivers, this may take a few minutes". After a few minutes it claimed to have been successful and asked me if I wanted to reboot.
    After the reboot I had sound, but only on the front two channels.

    Any suggestions on my various problems ?

    I raised a query through the scan page but I guess that might not get answered until Monday.

    OK, well I've solved some of my problems.

    The sound input was set to line in rather than microphone. So now my mic works.

    And Start->Control Panel->Speakers
    and then change the settings from stereo to 5.1. That made a big difference. A bit of a homer moment there Doh !!

    So my remaining problems are :-
    1) Cracked CD - I'll wait for scan support to reply to my query.
    2) BF2142 claims my hardware isn't supported when I select X-Fi !! I'll do a bit of googling.
    3) Currently my 5.1 headphones are only giving 5.0 in 2142. i.e. the "vibrate volume" has no effect. I'll do some more investigating with this.

    Thanks for reading
