I understand that, I'm just looking at it as an average bloke who as £260 to spend, Do i buy a new Motherboard or add £10 and get a next gen gaming system?

Up till last year your could get a top of the range Motherboard on first release for around £150 now this ones coming in at around £260

IMO PC hardware prices are rising by too much when they should be more competitive in light of the XBOX 360 and PS3 afterall it's mainly games that sell top end hardware.

I agree and feel for you, I'msure if you wait a while they should come down, Abit and the others will be out soon competition might make them cheaper.
We pay far too much because of the TAX over here the government makes twice as much as any company in the chain, not a lot we can do apart from letting them know how we feel, but sadly not many people make the effort.
The Americans are moaning about what they have to pay so they must be a bit pricey for them to complain.

    Just found this;

iSuppli estimates that the total manufacturing cost of the premium model PlayStation 3 with 60GB HD comes in at $840, which retails at $599 - meaning a loss of around $241 per unit sold. The entry-level PS3 with 20GB HD and no Wifi delivers an even bigger loss, as it costs $306 more to build than its current RRP of $499. Factoring in the profit expected at retail increases the likely loss Sony is incurring.

You can see the full component break down here.

Originally iSuppli had estimated that Microsoft was losing around $125 per console on the launch of the 360. Now they are claiming Microsoft is actually making profit on each console sold, to the tune of over $75. This is in line with Microsoft's claims and sources in Taiwan, previous to Bach's interview with the Mercury news, that the 360's costs had been driven down to a significantly lower level.

I'm sorry I had mixed it up with the PS3.

I think the price is right, but only considering it's an early adopter board and of the highest quality. It will fall, just being patiant is pretty hard. Also it has to fit your needs. Its being aimed at a niche market (so say the reviews) and to that particular market price is not the prime concern (mostly!)

Any ideas on when you guys are getting anymore of these motherboards? When I ordered some stuff today on the phone I spoke to a guy who said you would be getting three more in this week but they are all sold out so do you have a definite date of when you will get more after that? Thanks

(If some guy from Scan is checking would you also tell me when you will have the Silverstone SST-ST85ZF in stock as well, thanks)

" ...blame our greedy government do you know there is over £60 import duty and VAT on it?"

Customs duty is the same throughout the EU and import VAT is reclaimed by the importer. The final consumer only pays VAT once, at the point of sale.

not sure if its been posted yet, EVGA or the BFG ones seem to be the better buy going by this review.

    From hardocp post review:
"Another comment that I'd like to leave here is that I am using the Striker in my own system now. I replaced the eVGA board with it because the eVGA board did not work correctly and left me with a huge list of problems. Almost every system problem I have had with my personal machine was resolved when I installed the Striker. I tried two different eVGA boards and both of them had malfunctioning RAID controllers, stability issues and sound issues with SLI enabled. This was the case even after the BIOS was updated to P21.

I don't know if there will be a featured article following up on the Striker on the [H] main site, but I will follow up with my new experiences with this board as I overclock my E6600 and use this board in my own system. I will post in the forum with my experiences, good or bad." <-- hardocp mobo editor.

So either he got paid off, or the review mobo wasn't as good as later production runs.

What i want to know from scan is what is their return rate on 680i boards?

We've had quite a lot of the EVGA motherboards in stock and the current amount that's been RMA'ed back has been just over 1% of the total (to be precise it's 1.2195%)

This is still actually VERY LOW for electrical goods.

The Asus we've had only the 1 so far - but as we've only had a very small handful of these boards in compared to the EVGA the rate is going to be a higher percentage.

    I hope this information helps

like any new motherboard there's problems, especially with a new chipset as well.

you also only hear about ppl's problems on forums which is how rumours start about product reliability.

    almost always unfounded
