    LED or Energy Saving Lightbulbs

Anyone know a good shop to buy these?

Google throws out loads of shops, but they all look expensive...

Also, anyone know which ones are good to go for? there seems to be a few different types out there...

    Cheers

I have started to put low energy bulbs in. Had a couple free from my energy supplier (Swalec). They are also sending me a free elctric energy monitor worth £45 free as i have gone onto a better tariff. Got to start saving on the energy bills!!

Re: LED or Energy Saving Lightbulbs

Just got 4 bulbs from british gas lol. Best place to try is shops like tesco/asda/morrisons etc, major brands are all good like phillips iirc. Check hotukdeals for posts about bulbs at shops, last time i think tesco was selling some for 10pence and before that 1pound for a pack or something, not bad considering they last for a good few years compared to non energy saving ones.

edit: jsut checked HTUKD and apprently Robert Dyas is selling 3 for 99pence(phillips) instore only and its £1.30 each online

Morrisons currently have the phillips ones for 39p or 3 for a quid. They are warrantied for 6 years but 3 of mine have gone after 2 years but its cheaper to buy a new one than to bother posting it off for an exchange.

Re: LED or Energy Saving Lightbulbs

    Morrisons OK if Philips.
Beware of any brand outside the big 4. I had some Prolite 'daylight' CFLs and they were noisy, stank and weren't near wattage.

An old GF has fitted some Megaman LED lamps in her kitchen and often needs only 1 on instead of 2.

Re: LED or Energy Saving Lightbulbs

I have got a bunch of downlights each kicking out 50watts - 12 infact. Got some low energy wall lights thankfully.

Is there a decent LED GU10 bulb that gives off enough light because my missus is already throwing a world of hate at all the current low energy bulbs - she doesn't like the light and if I replace the LED's without them being a good swap she will want all the bulbs changed backed again. I find that only a 100w equivalent low energy bulb can replace a normal 60w bulb.

I know what she means. We've replaced virtually all our old bulbs with low energy ones and the house seems to be constantly dark. I don't know if it's the colour of the light or just that they don't give out as much but the so called equivalents are nothing like. A 100w normal bulb seems much brighter than the low energy equivalent.

Yes, very. I replaced my 50w GU10s in the kitchen with their 11w economy ones and missus is happy. 44w total versus 200w!
They do a spot version too (with reflector) but i've just used the standard ones.
