    Miele or Dyson

My vacuum has stopped working. So I am looking around for a new one. My place has carpet.

I've always bought cheapy ones that break. So I am thinking of buying one that will last me a while and does what it says on the tin. Two I'm looking at areDyson / Miele. Both are pricey so. But people swear by them...

Anyone an owner of either Miele / Dyson on hexus. Would you recommend it..

    Re: Miele or Dyson

Usx which model do you own [if you own]?

Cheapest Miele is a compact model with small bag. I'm just thinking if they are worth it.. or better to get full size model with more capacity..

    Re: Miele or Dyson

    Buy a Henry

Can be had for as little as £85, much better value than a Miele or Dyson. These are used every day for years on end in commercial situations, so should last "forever" at home.

EDIT: beaten by Oolon while I was looking up prices

    Re: Miele or Dyson

My mother is a cleaner, works for lots of people, many different houses, many different vacumn cleaners.

Her advice when my vac died, was get a Henry. built like a tank, new ones are quiet, lots of suck, spare parts available if you bounce it down the stairs. Shes seen dysons come and go, some of her henrys are 15+ years old

    Re: Miele or Dyson

Oolon/Funstar I've given up on the Henry. Fantastic hoover, long lasting yadayada.. thats why I owned one.

If I had wooden floors I would have kept my Henry. But it gets heavy to push around on carpet and carry up stairs especially for women.

You see, you never said that in your OP, you just said "cheap ones that break"

My better half has borrowed my Dyson as her cheap £15 Tesco job has died after 2 years. She asked how much mine was, I didn't tell her directly, but I did say she would get 40 years worth of £15 Tesco vacuums for the same money (in cash terms).

Did she manage to calculate that ? lol

I generally believe you get what you pay for. Henry's are proof of that. I've have looked at Miele's and Dysons in the past and their prices put me off. But people swear by them..

I owned an Electrolux mini.. one of those extra small ones off supermarket shelf purely because it was light weight. But the bags filled up as they have tiny capacity (2L), and I'm not sure impact of that on Miele's compact models.

Miele, however many of their models are quite a lot heavier than other brands..

Its fine, it does not have a power head however is cleans well, and copes very well with objects as well as dust.

    Re: Miele or Dyson

My parents have had their dyson for 6 or 7 years and still going strong; but it's still got a long way to go to match a £85 Henry that's been going 15 years.
