    TFT Monitors..

OK so there are now loads of the things around, and to be honest i have no idea what to go for.

I currently have quite a good rig (see signature), but have moved house and the desk space has been reduced dramatically, and so i really need a TFT. I am using a 19" Iiyama CRT and the quality on this is top notch, so i could really do with quality similar if it is possible.

I use the PC mostly for games and general home use, no real DTP needs. I do not want this monitor to be crap for games that come out in 1 year from when I buy it.

All i know about TFT's is that:

    1) Be careful with size as max resolution for a 19” is 1280x1024 etc.
    2) Response rate wants to be about 16 or below.

    Also I don’t think I want a widescreen monitor, and I don’t really have a strict budget but don’t want to pay much over £300 - £350.

    Any suggestions????
    [EDIT]

Some things i have been looking at:

    Iiyama Prolite E481S-S Silver 19" TFT 1280x1024, 8msec

Best buy with TFT at the moment is PC World, who have an Iiyama 483 with DVI for £200. Its £30 cheaper than anywhere on the internet and you can pick it up. The other good monitors to look at are the AG Neovo F419 again with DVI for £200 from Ebuyer and the new Samsung with 4ms response time for about £260.

Also, Morgan computers have an NEC 1970 TFT monitor for £235 + delivery. Quoted 18ms response, but plays games extremely well (I just bought the 1980 which has the same TFT matrix).

I'm thinking of getting the Xerox XA7-192i myself. Looks like a very nice piece of kit and not too horribly expensive (ranges more or less from £270-£330 online)

Other monitors I was looking at (also mainly for games like yourself) were the recent samsung B models (930BF looking like a winner) and the iiyama H481. The Hyundai L90D+ might do it, and if you have the money take a look at viewsonic. vp191b - expensive but sounds very good

btw, all these are 1280x1024 monitors ... if you want 1600 then you'll need a considerably bigger budget!!

Your not going to be able to equal your CRT's quality, I'm happy enough with my TFT while i am over here but when i go back to the UK next year my 21" samsung crt will regain its position as a main monitor.

But that samsung tft looks ok it will probably do you and you will be impressed by the size (19"tft > 19"crt). Just don't expect it to be as good as your crt I doubt you will get motion blur but the viewing angles (while good) are not as good as your CRT, and the colours wont be the same...but alot of this is down to personal perference i guess, some people can't see the difference.

Sometimes people spend a little more to get the same thing, for reasons of customer service. I'd always buy from overclock.co.uk over overclockers.co.uk, the latter may be cheaper, but the former will make sure any problems I have a resolved, and actually listen to me and often do something when I make suggestions to them.

    thanks guys...

And yea that is exactly why i am going for Microdirect. Overclockers.co.uk also have the monitor for about £10 cheaper on a special deal. But i would rather use a company i know to have good customer service when i am spending a decent amount of money.

    Thanks for all the help!

Pity you didn't want a widescreen, as Dell are doing a deal on the 2005FPW and Aria frequently have cheap Dell monitors too.

I've got one and love it to bits. My sole gripe so far is that I havent found a way to get the PiP function to show the full desktop of the second PC.
