Help with a new Shuttle system

Hello people. I have just got a new house (moved out of parents place). I will be having my PC in the spare room, and my main TV in the living room, so no more watching things from PC onto the TV.

I therefore decided to build a cheapish shuttle barebones PC to sit under the TV. I have bought the Shuttle XPC SK43G (socket A) from Overclockers.co.uk.

This comes as a case and mobo, and I need to buy a CPU. My question is...

    A. Does this barebones system come witha special CPU cooler?
    B. Do i have to buy a "special" CPU cooler for Shuttle PCs? or
    C. Would a normal cooler do the job (as long as it fits in teh small case).

I will probably get a Sempron 2800+ CPU for it.

    Hi there,

The SK43G comes with its own heatpipe cooling solution for the processor. You will not need to buy a seperate cooler for it.

If you want a really quiet system, a fan replacement on the ICE and 80mm conversion for the PSU is a must. Also cutting grills makes the system FAR better in terms of temperature. If you can stretch to it, a 2500+ mobile chip will give you some really nice speeds (3200+ and above) and operates on a lower voltage = less heat = less noise. Also, get a spinpoint, things like maxtors tend to run pretty hot it shuttles and are too loud for a media PC TBH.

I was planning on putting my WD Caviar 120Gb IDE drive in it. It seems a lot quieter than my Barracuda 250Gb SATA. Does that sound about right?

And a mobile chip... never thought of that. Had my eye on a 2800 Sempron Socket A

The ICE cooler it comes with is top notch.
