    Computer Building

For my new PC I want to build it from scratch as a mini project. I just wondered if it is still cost effective to buy computer components seperately and build yourself or whether your just better off buying a computer desktop only no monitor from a website like MESH or Scan? Also where on the interenet tends to offer the best prices for purchasing computer components.

Thanks for your help and sorry if this is in the wrong place it is my first post.

unless you just want to surf the net.....
if you just want to surf, do spread sheets, word documents and stuff...then DELL make the best value PC's by a long chalk.,

But as son as games are involved....you gotta make it yourself, so you can upgrade as you go along.

and then....only Scan. They are second to none for helpfull and value.

Cheers for the help. I am using the PC for work, games, web site design, professional audio recording etc so it will need to be quite a good spec. I have decided to put it together myself. Should be good fun and a decent learning experience.

Probably cheaper to buy off the shelf.

Scan do some good sytems, but as someone had already said if you just need it for email/web/office docs then Dell is probably your best bet for cheapness.

I would avoid Celeron models like the plague tho - utter garbage.

If you want to play games then build your own, and as someone said you can upgrade as you go along. It can be testing at times but its ultimately worthwhile and you learn a lot experience wise.

The hardest part is spending ages picking the exact spec you want, put it all up on a spread sheet and then ask us what we think when you think you have got it. Also remember not to try and skimp on the PSU as a cheap one just will not cut it!!!

Build it dude...you'll feel so proud of yourself after you've got it up and running and if you're not satisfied, you can easily return parts you didn't like and get something better.

    I Concur

Build it! It won't be any cheaper but your'll learn loads and have a custom spec, exactly to your liking and totally unique. Lian Li or Coolermaster case will look much cooler in your room than any grey dell box. Their monitors are cool though...
