Best SatNav for UK use plus USA holiday

Thinking about getting a SatNav system for my own general use for a while now, and keep hearing great things about the TomTom Go, so that might be the one.
Am also going on holiday to the USA in a month, hiring a car there, and was wondering:-
Should I hire a SatNav system from them (approx £100 ish?) for 2 weeks and then get a UK only SatNav here, or get a USA map for my own system?
Any experience or opinions welcome, cheers.

I looked into getting some USA maps for my TOMTOM but they worked out at like 80 quid! Thats without buying the actual TOMTOM anyway!

I have a magellan 360 which works great in USA (not sure about UK though)

Renting a tomtom in usa for £100 for twoo weeks is rape... Juice is still cheap here compared to UK, I'd rather get lost a few times than pay $180 rental on a until you can buy equivalent for about $300

I know, i know, it's alot of money, but we want to just generally drive around various parts of florida without a clue where to go or how to get there.
It seems as though I can buy a regular TomTom and then buy a USA map, which TomTom sell for 100 quid.
    Might start looking around ebay.
