Headline :: Sony hoping to justify your PS3 investment

Sony has recently opened their own Playstation blog allowing company insiders to post news and opinion on the PS3. Sony President Jack Tretton has made his first post in which he states that the company have big plans to justify your investment in the PS3.

    Check out the Headline

Sony have missed the boat pure and simple. It's going to take time for them to stir up real interest in their console.

It's not to say it's a bad console tho' just hard to justify the spend at the moment, unless you want cheap blue-ray.

So let me get this right... hes saying "We have big plans! We could have made Playstation 2.5 but we didn't, we made Playstation 3, its was a gamble, but we have big plans".

That still doesn't give me any clue as to why I should pay £425 (+HDMI cable) for the console.

The only thing that's going to justify the purchase is a refund of £100. Arrogant sons-a-bitches aint they.

A us ps3 is the best investment £300!! plus the other extras that make it better than the uk version. I've winced a few times when friends tell me the amount they've paid for uk ones.

Strange. I don't think any justification is needed tbh.

You buy a £425 console and don't require justification to do so? Why don't you just throw all your money out the window?

Well, I paid £350 for mine - and after having it this long in reflection i would of payed the £425 anyway.

I was going to buy a blu-ray player for £550 and the PS3's blu-ray player is actually better - how am i throwing money away? especially when you add...

    1. Great games
    2. free internet gaming access
    3. full 1080p
    4. Media Streaming
    5. Leading 1080p DVD Upscaling dvd capabilities
    6. Remote play with PSP.
    7. Quiet and cool running (unlike my old xbox)

The list could go on but you get the picture and i now have more motorstorm to play

It would appear to me whenever anyone does something like this, they almost have to justify their purchase to themselves by trying to make it out to be better than the 360. Not trying to "flame" the post but I find most of those points don'treally justify paying £145 more than a Xbox (which will come bundled with at least 1 game, and the cables you need to play the thing on an HDTV)

    1. Great games

Its got 4 of them hasn't it? Motorstorm, RFOM, Oblivion and F1, and some of those only got average reviews.

    2. free internet gaming access

That doesn't work anywhere near as well as Xbox Live!
And you could buy 3 years worth of Xbox Live access with the difference of the two consoles prices.

    4. Media Streaming

You can do this now? I didn't think you could stream media over a network to your PS3.

    5. Leading 1080p DVD Upscaling dvd capabilities

A Cheaptec Aldi dvd player upsales to 1080p/i nowadays.

    6. Remote play with PSP.

At last a reason to own a PSP!

    7. Quiet and cool running (unlike my old xbox)

I agree on that on point, is that worth £145 extra?

Each to their own really, I just don't see any justification for the price, regardless of whether its got BluRay (and its associated features) or not, its a games console at heart, and at current it isn't doing that very well.

If you bought it as a movie player, fair enough, if you bought it to play games on the 360 is a better investment right now, its got more games and the online service is miles ahead of PSN.

I just find it funny that owners of the PS3 constantly seem to want to reassure themselves that what they have done is the right thing, that they've not paid too much money, and even Sony themselves are now trying to reassure you that you've not paid too much money. Where theres smoke... theres fire.

I was just replying to the statement from poster before "i am throwing money away" to which i stated the reasons i feel i am not, and you are stating your own opinion and rightly so and I don't feel any of this is flaming just like you said - would be a boring forum if we all thought the same way - we are just expressing our own opinions which of course is what a forum is for

But just to confirm - I don't need to justify anything to myself. Like i said i was going to buy a blu-ray player anyway which was nearly £200 more expensive and inferior in quality to a PS3 -that would of been throwing money away yes.

    In reply to your post....

    1.not 4 - approx 30 games out at present...
    http://www.movietyme.com/catalog/def...0691&cPath=348

    2. Its still free - also have you seen previews of "home" yet - look rather good.

    4. Yep plenty of streaming on PS3, take your pick...
    http://www.redkawa.com/mediacenters/ps3mediacenterx/
    http://www.orb.com/gamers/ps3.htm

    5. Yet another external device? Why have extra clutter of boxes around my tv and for that matter external drives - no additional dvd/hd drives needed. Great thing about the PS3 is does this all in one unit.

    6. I think the PSP is great

    7. Im not digging flaming at xbox/360 etc, im just giving my observations as someone who owns both machines. All i can say is that since i built my fairly high spec pc - and purchased my PS3 - i have had no desire to use the 360 and is sitting unused in the spare room. If i didn't have a PS3 or good PC then yes i am sure i would still use the 360 as i did enjoy playing on it for a while but that time has passed.

It is an excellent piece of kit but true expensive compared.

Expensive (so if you have to justify buying it you can not afford it)

If you can't afford to buy it then slag it off and big up the Xbox!

When I said 4 games, I meant "great games" like you said before.

Home doesn't float my boat in the slightest, it looks like Xbox Live! for WoW/Second Life addict.

Just for the record Paul, I've almost bought one on two occasions, but decided to spend the money on something else that I'd use instead.
