Since the kind of CPU you'd use on a PC with a pair of G80s will consume about 100W itself, it's obvious that you're quickly going to run out of power if all you have available is a 500W PSU.

Ooooh. Nice review. Hardcore PSU reviewers would have expected you to take the PSUs apart but I don't mind since you seem to have stressed them properly.
I would say however that whilst you show us the amount of power provided we know nothing of the quality of that power. Still, it does show you that you get what you pay for: pay over £100 for a good brand PSU and you should be ok.
Lastly, I realise you mentioned that you had the older model of the Zeus 750, but you later mentioned some now outdated features. That PSU (unless it has changed again), now has only one adapted supplied AFAIK, and it too has its connectors labeled according to the 12V rail they are powered by.
just got the enermax galaxy 850. Glad to see it did so well. Just as well I got it as reading the system requirements on the 2900XT I got, it says that it needs a 750+ watt PSU.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

Anyone know if the Enermax (either) will fit inside the Antec P180? I think it _should_ do, but there's a big sheet of metal in the middle of the psu/hdd compartment which might just cause problems.

I believe the answer to the abnormal temperature readings on the Silverstone (high wattage Etasis in general) units lies in the very high switching frequency employed (say 100-150 kHz?). As you all probably know, there is a trade off between using higher switching freq (necessitates the use of smaller components) and the resultant EMI.
What you may have here is an EMI issue which is interfering with your temperature probes (especially if it is some kind of IR/RF probe). You can probably drop a 10x probe in there and see what kind of junk EMI signals it picks up on?
I'm quite surprised to see the Galaxy described as quiet
Ive had 3 of these, including the current DXX version, and the fans are quite loud at idle, and under heavy load, and a full speed, they are insanely loud. Its more of a powerful whooshing of air, and I have to say that it doesnt bother me, but for people buying a PSU, they should be aware of that
I also had a Tagan 700W dual engine, which was fairly quiet, until both fans stuck on full, and did exactly what you describe, maybe you had a duff one as well?
Edit: I should also point out that it is very difficult to make the Galaxy's fans spin up under load, but when they do, youll know about it!
