My wife always wants us to get to the cinema for the starting time and I always say it's going to be half an hour before the movie starts. I hate waiting.

I actually like sitting through the adverts and trailers. I spend half the time saying "ooh! that looks good. I need to see that" even though i rarely do.
There are three cinemas in Aberdeen, a CineWorld, a Vue and The Belmont. I've not been to the Cineworld since it was UGC, apparently it is still the same as when it was a Virgin, so it will be in desperate need of a gutting. The Vue is pretty good, but the American style no-reserved-seating annoys me.
The Belmont is a great indipendant art house cinema. They are linked with others around the country though. I think they are partly funded by the city. Very comfy seats!
I like going to the cinema, i just don't get much of a chance.
re: the Golden Compass - read the book its based on - 'Northern Lights' by Robert Pullman. Its very good.

I really used to enjoy going to the empire? cinema near me, they only showed 3 or 4 movies a day (maximum) - if that. They only had the one (or possibly 2) screen(s) but it felt a much more special experience, having to queue in the long queue to actually have to go in to the cinema to watch the film. You had to stand and wait, even if it decided to rain. The basic tickets and the small pop corn stand.
I am only 20 and I just find going to the new Cineworld cinema such a chore, it no longer feels special and it seems a lot more expensive than it used to be. Sure it is comfier, and facilities are much better, but there just isn't the same feeling of going to watch a movie for the single small cinema supporting a whole (relatively large) time - it made it quite a challenege getting in if it was a new release

I quite enjoy watching the trailers myself, I remember when I saw the Superman Returns one, that was ace. I do think the build up takes too long though and worse still, if you've watching 2 or more movies in a month or two, you end up seeing all the same ads again and again.
I'm not averse to dishing out some off screen justice while I'm paying to enjoy a film....
Just about every film I've seen for about the last 3 years has seen either me or the wife tell some charva scum to shut up and behave. Ended up having quite a few ejected as well, with one even trying to shine a laser pen at the screen and at other cinema goers, only for that particular scrote to be escorted out by the scruff of the neck thanks to a nice police officer.
Strangely, the film dictates the behaviour of the idiots as well.... No grief during Donnie Darko or Thank You For Smoking, yet loads during Casino Royale, Transformers and Episode III. Go figure!
I don't mind the adverts, but I do get really annoyed by people that ruin the experince for you. Talking loaudly, mucking about, getting stuff out of plastic bags, not turning there phone off etc
Seems to be a lot more of this then there used to be.
I'd say there's a lot less. The cinema is usually empty near me. I know more people who have seen American Gangster illegally than at the cinema.
Back 10-15 years ago, when they used to have the ladies walking around serving ice-creams there used to be much more interruption.

Kinda reminds me of an old comedy sketch I remember seeing on TV once. It was of a Cinema advert that announced "You've just got time to nip out for some more Toffee Poppets while we open and close the curtains one more time..."
Kinda summed up the Cinema experience from my childhood. Nowadays not much has changed, apart from the lack of curtains....
