Mass medication without consent that's what this is. They know the effects of Fluoride, if they didn't why was it categorised as a poison under the 1972 Poisons Act, in the same group of toxins as arsenic, mercury and paraquat?

Here's a quick rundown of a few of fluoride's potential dangers:

* A number of studies have linked fluoride to as many as 10,000 cancer deaths each year, with a high incidence of bone cancer among men exposed to fluoride
* In animal trials, fluoride has been shown to enhance the brain's absorption of aluminium (the toxin shown to contribute to Alzheimer's disease)
* Several osteoporosis studies have associated hip fractures with fluoride intake



I'd rather have rotting teeth. Tell the adults to make sure their kids brush their teeth, don't force fluoride on the population like the Nazis did. It's well documented that mass medication of drinking water with sodium fluoride was a tactic used in German and Russian prisoner of war camps to make the prisoners "stupid and docile".

Personally I think brushing teeth and dental hygiene would be a far better option, that or the more Darling friendly "tax on sugar". Hehe.

Precisely, that's what the Health Minister should be thinking about. Instead of Barbie doll adverts during kids TV shows, where are the adverts that remind children to brush their teeth? When I stayed in Canada in the past, they had plenty of health related advertisements along those lines.

Promotion of better dental hygeine is needed, putting chemicals in our water isn't.

There is zero long-term benefit in consuming something like fluoride on a regular basis, is was indeed used by the Germans to keep prisoners manageable, maybe that's what our government wants to keep us all nice and docile and agree with all their new taxes and sneaky laws.

Are Britta filters good enough to filter out such small particles?

Who would you voice your concern to in government? Like it matters, or they'd listen...

^I don't think Britta filters would (though I could be wrong) as I've a feeling it's something heavy duty (like reverse osmosis) that's required to get it out.. We've got Britta filters at home (and in the kettle!)

Britta filters do nothing, pollaxe is right, you need something like a Berkey water filter (US) but they do a UK Berkey. Google is your friend.

My other question is, why does this have to be mandatory? Why not make it optional? i.e if you want it, go to the doc's to get a fluoride supplement instead of it being a compulsary dose everytime you go to the tap.

I like water, I drink a lot of it everyday. I don't like the introduction of chemicals in to my water supply. Man has got by for hundreds of thousands of years without it, who are they to say we're better off with it?

edit - @ godsdog - had a little look about and some of the filtration elements look like they'd fit into normal UK water filter taps mounted into sinks, is this what you mean?

It's vital you contact your MP and lobby. Make your voice heard - no matter how futile you deem it. It can and does work. Apathy is the killer.

I meant using the Berkey water filter for your daily drinking water like you see on the US Berkey site. And I haven't checked out filter transferability, I'd have to do way more research. But I've been toying with the idea of a Berkey for a while, but I'm of an age where the damage will have already been done - from BSE to the original fluoride in the 70s when i was growing up and parents knew no better.

Yowzas! I think I'll stick to bottled water.

I was totting this up last night, the RO filters are the only real way to remove all the nasties and even though they are a considerable outlay in the beginning they still work out cheaper than bottled water. Granted it takes 12-18 months to see a saving.

I'm seriously considering doing this regardless, I value my unfettered water supply and I'm too lazy to lug gallons of expensive posh water back from the uber-market every week.

Just gotta convince the bird now...
