Headlines - Intel to refresh its CPU line-up in Q3 2008

Reports suggest that in Q3 2008, Intel will introduce a selection of new 45nm desktop CPUs, phase out certain 65nm parts, and cut prices of existing chips.

More price cuts on the Q6600 I might think about getting one soon!

It is also believed that Intel will drop the Core 2 Quad Q9450, Q9300 and Q6700 from its product line-up, leaving the Q6600 as its last remaining 65nm quad-core part.
The Q9450 and Q9300 are 45 nm parts. You might mean Q6700 and Q6850.

JumpingJack, I've rephrased the last sentence to make it a little clearer. It now reads:
It is also believed that Intel will drop two 45nm parts from its product line-up, the Core 2 Quad Q9450 and Q9300, as well as the 65nm Q6700, leaving the Q6600 as its last remaining 65nm quad-core part.

Re: Headlines - Intel to refresh its CPU line-up in Q3 2008

Seems unfair for Intel to drop the Q9450 which has a 12Mb L2 cache and replace it with the Q9400 which has only 6Mb... That difference in cache seems to make a big difference to a Quad-core, so that leaves the Q9550 as the cheapest Quad worth getting.

Let's hope that price cut on the Q9550 gets properly realised for the consumer...

I thought the same. The Q9550 will still be priced over mainstream though.
