Nero vision express saying:'Burn process failed'

Hi, I used to nero vision to import an hours worth of mpeg 2 dvd video data onto the hardrive to burn to dvd(was this right?) and then I tried to burn it to dvd and I get an error messqage:Burn proccess failed, unable to set up disk structure or file structure' or something like that. I only have 1 chapter if thats any problem. Thanks, John.

Had a similar prob sorted it by reinstalling Nero but make sure you have the latest updates from the Nero site and just to make sure use a rewritable disk when burning

I had a bit of trouble until I installed a new ASPI layer... no idea what it is or does, but I was tearing out what little hair I have left. I read it on a site somewhere that XP's ASPI layer thingie is a bit cack and you should install a new one... I did and it worked straight off... might be worth a try?

I've had similar issues with the ASPI, doesn't come included with XP by default as I guess MS thought that it wouldn;t be used..it is though..Get it here http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/sup...aspi_471a2.exe

I'm using maxell dvd+r discs, surely i should need to cdrw or are you saying that so when i muck it up I can start over? Any more suggestions, Thanks.

Yes that is what I am saying and by using a dvd-rw you can (not a cdr-rw as you say in your post lol.) you can make sure that Nero is working correctly without making any more expensive coasters, once you are satisfied that it is working then of course you can burn to your usual dvd+r.

I tried again and it didnt work, i re-installed nero and installed the ASPI driver I think, but when I pressed the commant prompt with xp32 on the end the box just flashed and dissapeared, is that what is suppost to happen. Is the only way, to re-formatt everything?

This error only popped up on mine when I installed WinVideo (something like that). A few of the DVD progs cant co exist on the same system and you get that error. Also if you have Nero Vision Express 2 I would recommend getting the version 3 update from ahead (You can also update Nero itself if you have at least version 6)

What is the source for the MPEG 2 files ? (Camcorder or whatever ? )

If you are importing from an external source I would recommend using Windows Movie Maker (I pulled the kids nativity off the camcorder with this and it worked a treat), its under : start > programs > accesories > Windows Movie Maker

Windows Moviemaker will convert it to a standard mpeg file and then you can use NeroVision to convert it into a DVD

Also dont use the burn at once function on Nero, slightest hiccup on the system and its another disc wasted, let it transcode it first then burn it (Just use the single pass, takes ages on 2 pass (single pass is on Vision 3)) this way if theres an error its not in the process of writing a disc and it will save a disc. Once its transcoded it 100% it should burn fine

If you are wanting to burn IFO and VOB files I would recommend using CloneDVD 2 (What I use and no probs at all)

First and foremost though I would have a close look at what other DVD related software in on you're system and try removing it, then completely remove Nero and reinstall it

I currently only have nerovision and showtime which comes with it. I have re-formatted and have got different hardware this time so i'll give you a heads up how it goes. Yeah, im pulling it off a camera, so onto windows movie maker and then to dvd format using nerovision 3 and then burn...ok Iand i've got a dvd-rw so just to be sure. Thanks guys,John.

John, not sure if you have fixed your problem, but if it recurs or for anyone else,

A separate ASPI layer is not required when using Nero as it installs it's own ASPI file by default and doesn't rely on system ASPI.

Nero can be easily corrupted on XP as XP has a Adaptec Direct CD plug in built-in to the operating system.

Simply removing Nero and reinstalling doesn't always work and can make things worse as Nero installs a lot of different files and which aren't all removed on uninstall.

Most problems can be easily fixed by downloading the Nero Clean Tool from the Ahead website, removing Nero with that and doing a reinstall.
