    It does look very cool

Quite a few people aren't interested in the avatars, but I think they'll be a very good addition to the new dashboard.

Looks impressive to a degree, but I still don't like the look of the new "xbox experience" interface. I've only got my 360 a few days ago, but I think the current dashboard is great - looks good, works well..why change it for something that looks oh so PS3/Media Centre like

Still, we have the hard drive feature to look forward to at least, thats got to be the killer feature of the new dash for me

He seemed to steer clear of the Gamer Picture option, whats that all about?
Still it looks a lot better then it did at the unveiling
XBL is apparent going to be down on the 29th of September for some more maintenance in preparation for the new dashboard so the release is probably getting close

    Hard drive feature?

I have to admit that i do like the look of the new dashboard. The current one is great but their is room for improvement. I hope Sony follow suit and sort something a bit more usable out.

Hard drive feature lets you install the game to hdd (still need game in machine to play)

Sony have no need to update their XMB, it works perfectly, if it didn't do you think MS would have copied it in the first place?

Its looking like the new dashboard will be out in November.

Ah some games will be able to be installed, cutting down on loading times. Thanks for the reminder

Personally, i don't think it does work perfectly. There are far too many sub menu's for my liking, making it an unnecessarily laborious process to complete simple tasks (A description also fitting of the earlier 360 dashboard iterations). Sonys interface does the job but its not perfect, the same of which can be said of the dashboard.

From using my PS3 and looking at the major nelson videos of the new dashboard, i fail to see how MS have copied Sonys system though? What do you mean exactly?

Having only seen it running once, its looks like the same type of scrolling system that Sony use in the XMB. Except that they have switched axis. I've always preferred the Sony way since the release of the PSP, its easy to scroll where you need to go, its all on one screen so quick to get where you want. I know where all my data is stored, demo's etc. MS blade system was always a mess, bits here there and everywhere. As usual tho, its all imo.

Oh and i'm also no fan of the damn avatars, ooh, look, Nintendo have a fun little system that can make little people to represent you in games, lets copy that as we have no original ideas of our own to bring to the 360. At least Sony have come up with Home (eventually)

That's an interesting point. For new 360 owners, the update might be a bit of a nuisance.

Having had the 360 for a few years now, the current dashboard is starting to get a bit boring. I enjoyed it at first, and used to like the sound of the swishing blades - sad I know. Looking forward to something new now.

There's no doubt that Microsoft has taken ideas from others - particularly Nintendo, but why not? If somebody does something good, it's a good idea to make it available to others.

The Xbox 360's major downside is its hardware. But, it makes up for that with its software. With the three consoles currently going head-to-head, it's clear to see which one comes from a primarly-software company. The Xbox 360's dashboard and matchmaking services are superiour to the competition, in my opinion.

We won't know until we see it, but there's every reason to believe the new dash will be very good.
