So anyone reckon this WILL be able to be turned into a full fat 4870 with a bios flash?
No it will not be. The cores will be locked physically no Bios flash will unlock them just as you couldn't make a 4830 a 4850 with a BIOS flash.
In addition to that it uses a different memory controller (or at the very least scaled back) and has only half the ROPs all in all it is a different card and a BIOS flash will not make it a 4870.
Nope, I reckon you *may* get the ROP's back but the memory bus will be halved still, thus getting you something about half as fast again...
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
Then Tarinder shouldn't have said "Further, it opens up the tantalising possibility of potentially flashing the BIOS to a full HD 4870 512MB." in the conclusion.
How do you, smart people, erase the advertisment? I just want to, simply, read the article!!!
it's just getting me very nervous.
... because you asume I'm so smart to get over it.
While registering, I bet millions bucks that more people do know what or where Bucharest is, than Kaliningrad (that's about GMT+something ... you stupid, ignorant people from nexus.dot)
Personally I see no point to this hateful 4730 card.
its too long, slower than a 4830, uses so much more power...
and what marketing joker thinks its great to use gddr5 then put it on a 128 bit bus...
better to jsut keep selling 4830 until the 40nm core production is sufficient then complete the rest of the 47xx range.
a bit of a rant, but these 4730 cards are just so pointless!
