Scott vs Parm cage match?!Parm now thinks the iPad is a game-changer, and he and I have debated this subject at length
I think the iPad is different to Buzz (or whatever the google thing is called) because it's hitting the market about the same time as other similar devices, and it is bringing an existing technology to the mass market for the first time. Tablet devices of some description (generally convertible laptops) have been around for quite a few years, but have been seen as the reserve of the industrial / business customer. Buzz, on the other hand, is late to market and is bringing something already familiar to the mass market. As you say in your article, everyone already gets Social Networking. When cricket commentators use Twitter, you know the world has embraced this technology as mainstream!
To use a metaphor, Buzz is rather like Google arriving late at a party and saying "look, I brought some beer" - it doesn't really matter how good their beer is, because people have already drunk a lot of beer. Apple is turning up at the same time as everyone else and shouting "Hey everyone, there's some beer over here!". They haven't brought the best beer, but they've made everyone aware that beer is available.
Can you tell it's Friday afternoon...?
