    Re: News - NVIDIA introduces OEM-only GeForce GT 320, 330 and 340 GPUs

    At least they haven't rebranded the GTS250

    Yet.....

    That would really take the piss...

    8800GT = 8800GTS 512 (8800GTS 512 basically just a slightly improved 8800GT with faster core plus mem clocks)
    8800GT = 9800GT (8800GT gets renamed to 9800GT)
    8800GTS = 9800GTX (8800GTs renamed to 9800GTX, wait wut? but the 8800GTS is basically a 8800GT...)
    9800GTX = 9800GTX+ (Released a slightly tweaked [via a die shrink] 9800GTX, named it the 9800GTX+)
    9800GTX+ = GTS250 (Renamed the 9800GTX+ the GTS250)

    Therefore GTS250 = Tweaked 8800GT

    GTS310 next anyone?

    This renaming was already a farce. What adjective comes after that?

    8800GT = 8800GTS 512 (8800GTS 512 basically just a slightly improved 8800GT with faster core plus mem clocks)- Has more SP/cores so was kinda better with faster clocks too, think of the edited 260gtx 192-216 or what ever it was. However they are similar

    8800GT = 9800GT (8800GT gets renamed to 9800GT)- Yup
    8800GTS = 9800GTX (8800GTs renamed to 9800GTX, wait wut? but the 8800GTS is basically a 8800GT...) GTS---> GTX = Extra 6pin connector along with improved clock speeds, generally 100mhz core overclock i believe, however the power increase was huge! So useless
    9800GTX = 9800GTX+ (Released a slightly tweaked [via a die shrink] 9800GTX, named it the 9800GTX+) Yeh just went to 55nm andthat was it.
    9800GTX+ = GTS250 (Renamed the 9800GTX+ the GTS250)

    Therefore GTS250 = Tweaked 8800GT

    GTS310 next anyone?

    Atleast one of them has DX11, or did i read that wrong? Dont remember last series had dx11 so they added something .

    !

    So they didn't need to sweat away over fermi - they could just show all their doubters that they already have a dx11 card?

    (yup, you read that wrong )

    I did gather i read it wrong but i still dont see how this makes sense...

    "Further down the scale, the GeForce GT 320 returns to DirectX 11 and GT200 roots"

    That to me reads as:

    The GT 320 returns as a gt200 part with DX11.

    I'm guessing that's a typo and it should say DX10.1. Fermi is meant to be the first DX11 part and AFAIK the derived mid- and low-range DX11 parts haven't entered production yet...

    Although the full range all look like odd mashups to me. The GT340 looks like a fairly directly rebranded GT240, but what's with the 330 and 320? Have they just emptied the shed and stuck whatever working GPU cores they could get their hands on a PCB...?

    well I'd rather them release something. With these cards they bring DX11. hopefully they are also more feature rich and cheaper than their counter...brands..?

    AMD are milking the situation right now and won't drop their prices but if you can get a 8800GTS or higher for £50 soon (not holding my breath), whatever it would be called, I would purchase nvidia despite my AMD preference. As long as they aren't dropping performance with the rebrand i'm fine with it but it seems they might be doing just that with some parts (I think with the 310?).
