We wonder if phone operators are making a mistake by asking for such lengthy commitment to a handset.

Yes, they really need to revise their contract length...12 months is/was fine.

I hated the idea of long contracts and i always look for 12months like i got with my renoir, however i stretched to 18 month for my HD2 which im glad i did!.

Looking at it though i see the longer contracts as a good idea, my HD2 does a job i want it to do well and the newer smartphones are just going to be doing that better and better, now with a shorter contact ill have to upgrade earlier and get say the HD3 instead of the HD4 which again would be an improvement(example), with a longer contract it means the phons cheaper oerall as its subsidized more and thus i get a HD4 at the end of it for a similar price the hd3 would be but i didnt need the upgrade.

Probably doesnt make sense but to me it just did today after reading that question .

No info on O2... shame. Just one more month to go until I can get rid of my N96 - would like to replace with a decent andriod phone but still seem to be none available on O2.

It does make sense mate. im getting this phone and tbh i dont expect something else to complete blow it away spec-wise for the remaining of the year.

only the new Windows mobile phone may do that but thats not available until later this year.

When im ready to upgrade after another 18months i can get the 2nd or 3rd gen windows mobile 7 device.
