It's surprising that BT didn't ever consider the idea themselves, after all many small villages are inhabited by wealthy professionals who want a quieter place to live.

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
Absolutely brilliant. As someone who lives in the sticks this is quite inspiring (and I live with very little hope for this country at present!)
Awesome.
Seems to be the way to go if you're out in the sticks.
Surprised at the reasonable pricing too. lol.

Local co-ops like this seem to be a good way to persuade BT to link them up.
I don't know, but I would guess BT would be expected (either by Ofcom or by customers) to offer the same prices nationwide, even if they had made a special effort & incurred costs to improve things in a specific location.
(& of course BT is a juggernaut, and it's difficult to apply themselves to sensible small scale projects like this...)
Shows to me how high the costs of wiring up the rural peeps are.
10GB standard usage at a very high price, no doubt its still BT's copper to the home so a further £10 per month is needed, before long its £100 pcm for what Be and the like charge.

Heard this bloke interviewed on R4 this morning. The high charges are necessary to get the ROI. Local investors are getting 10% on their money !
Society's to blame,
Or possibly Atari.
For how long? Seems like a reasonable return for a business enterprise to be able to recoup it's costs but offer a very good service. No one seems to mind paying 18 - 20% on their credit cards
Also Rutland being the richest county in the UK, and I believe the county with the highest average house cost so I'm pretty certain that there are some schrewed operators living there.
Doesn't seem that way from my reading of the Hexus article, looks like £40pcm for similar to what BE offer at £18pcm + do you still need to pay the BT £12pcm? (admittedly usage is a little lower at the level of the value package but not at the lower speed)
Definately good news for us living in the sticks.Rutland Telecom's service is currently offered at a rate of £30 per month including line rental, through which users get a free router, 24Mbps download speeds and a 10GB usage allowance. An extra 50GB allowance can be purchased at an additional cost of £10 per month, whilst speeds can be doubled to up to 48Mbps for an extra £20.
ah line rental my bad, thats not *too* bad, but when you look at the base package from Be costing £7.50 is better than a 10GB useage.
I use quite a lot, a lot of which is probably just steam!
