Hmmmmmm tasty. Lets see if they nail the handling, but it's looking nice.
Some screenshots.
Early impressions are pretty good.
Looks pretty nice.
Will probaly get it. If it's anything like Dirt2 it will be amazing
Well apparently, there is the "flashback" feature included, not sure how well that will go down.
I did like Dirt 2, really nice game, but I think for an F1 game it all needs to be about realism, and for the purists, complete car setup.
Jon
They do seem to be going all out to try and make a proper racing sim.. Fingers crossed eh .
I hope it's a bit more realistic though tbh.
With most Codemasters games you just put the difficulty up and that gets rid of them.
Yeah, seems like we're gonna be getting complete car setup .
It's the whole feel of the game though, from the menu screens to Travis Pastrana or whatever his name is having to give you points and voiceovers all the way through. The other drivers voiceovers and them becoming your 'friend' as you go through career. The way that hardly any of the stages take more than 2 - 3 mins.
It's just aimed at a young audience that arn't necessarily motorsports or rally fans. I always found my self fed up at doing a a couple of stages at 2 - 3 mins a piece and then spend 4 mins getting into the next race as some wally had to say 'great race, your my friend' blah blah blah........
Says it all that the 'big events' are the X games rather than a proper rally event.
The actual handling and the rallying was good and fun, but every surface seems to feel the same, the force feed back doesn't seem to change on any of the loose surfaces.
I would certainly want the menu screens and feel outside of the cockpit in F1 2010 to aimed at people older than 10. I would expect lots of interaction in career mode but could be good if it's done well, or poor if not. The feature that means the more practice laps you do at the race circuits the quicker your team gets upgrades is quite good. Most of what i'm hearing makes me think it's gonna be quite a good game. Just depends if they get the polish and feel of it right.
IMO this game will handle as realistic as Dirt2. It wont beat even Forza 3 for handling physics imho so i will wait for rfactor2 instead which will also have a dynamic weather systems and you can bet your mortgage they will implement it better than this game.
Well lets see anyway, maybe CM will surprise us and make it very realistic but i doubt it.
I'd advise you take a look at the other dev diarys if you havn't already. they're certainly giving it the right talk.

After that if they make just another game i'd be very disappointed. It's looking like they're trying to make a good game with good realism (once all aids turned off)
But that's what sony said about F1 championship edition which is probably the worst F1 game ever made.
If it works the carrer mode could make this one of the best racing games ever, if it fails. We still have great rfactor mods available. Aswell as rfactor 2 mods when it's ever released. And i at least will have iracings williams F1 car too
I can't see codemasters after that getting it so wrong....can they?
I'm optimistic................kind of
They got OPF2 wrong. Had good hype like this game and it failed. Badly
It's so cutting edge it's exactly the same as in GP3 from 1998. Dynamic track conditions with standing water, drying lines, overheating tyres, partially wet tracks and forecasts which get it a little bit wrong occasionally. Even the graphics aren't that impressive, looking remarkably similar to GP4 from 2001 - the spray is identical, which is hardly anything to shout about with GP4 being 9 year old.
It's Codemasters. It'll be as simulation-like as Colin McRae 2, which wasn't bad and certainly was fun, but in a physics sense, wasn't a sim in the slightest, even for the time.
Oh crap, so they did......oh dear
They did also make toca touring cars which in the form of the origional 2 PS1 games got me into racing games
That was a long time ago though
Looking back at GP4 through rose tinted specs?

But yeah some of the weather stuff on track isn't new, it's how they implement it in a more neerdy way.
It's the same graphics engine and Dirt 2. So there's no question it's going to be visually stunning. It looks good at the moment, but there only provisional cars as the promo material is the 2009 cars done quickly to show off the thing to the press.
I'm not going to decide too much on the gameplay just yet, the only video footage we've seen has been people on the media demo who can't drive or cars obviously being controlled with a controller which looks decidedly not polished. Jury is still out.
In terms of graphics, maybe a touch, though the out of box GPx is very different to a heavily modified one. The spray is a little more volumetric, but that's it. The rest of the wet weather graphics look decent - especially if the rain splashes on the road are real rather than just a demonstration of what the engine can do. It's just not 9 years better than what we had. I'd argue it's not even half that.
None of the 'weather stuff' is new, unless you were an F1C person rather than GPx. Graphically it is probably a little more dynamic, but it has all been done.
TBH, nothing in this is actually new, it's just going to be better looking and trying to implement things with more detail and in a better way (in theory)
Animated pit crews, career modes and dynamic weather etc can all be found. But if i was to by an off the shelf sim, none of them have all these features.
GP4 is still the best all round game for F1, and it's very old now.
It's a shame it's taken so long to get another game.
Looking at the dev interviews they're giving it the right talk for a great game. But codemasters recent past i suppose it will be something of a stretch to expect they get it all right.
I'm just gonna be optimistic untill proved otherwise
