Edit: Ignore me i can't read properly :-(
take it the update for ipod touch is free as I'm updating now and it didn't mention any costs. I had to pay for version 3.0 so find it strange if this doesn't cost anything.
Yes, it's free for the touch, i updated last night. I also remember Jobs stating that it would be a free update. I imagine the reason for making it free is to ensure we're all subjected to iAds.
I'm doubly pleased as I was too cheapskate to upgrade to 3, so have been running on 2.2.1 for the last year - copy and paste yay!
The update fee was due to accountancy rules introduced under "Sarbanes-Oxley" after the Enron mess.
These have now been relaxed so Apple can legally offer free updates to iOS systems. I haven't read into the details, but I guess these updates are classed as full OS upgrades, where as iPod classics for example are just firmware updates.
OS4
Multitasking
- Jailbroken users have had that for the past 3-4 years
Folders
- Jailbroken users have had that for the past 3-4 years
User selectable backgrounds
- Jailbroken users have had that for ...well you get the picture
Multitasking is only for apps written to take advantage of it - i.e. hardly any.
- Unlike jailbroken true multitasking for all apps
