    ... Intel's official line for Ivy Bridge is that it'll be available in the first half of 2011. ...
    I'll keep my eye out for it in the next couple of months then

    But you would still need a new motherboard with both physical/electrical PCI-e 3.0 slots to make the most of the CPU on-die lanes - right?

    Better to make it backwards compatible (but accept it's slower) than not make it backward compatible at all. It's what AMD's been doing for years.
