Does the cost of the cooler include insurance for your motherboard by any chance?! They must surely create or offer some sort of case support/suspension bracket to take the weight and stress off your board. Even the guy having the interview wasn't exactly beaming with confidence!

Bad Zalman! Put the aluminum pie down and start shedding some weight!

The Thermalright IFX-14, which i have, weighs over 900 grams and it hasn't been an issue for the last 3 years. I haven't noticed any board warping etc...

Thats slightly different. We are talkin all the weight on one side. Your thermalright is actually 790g (according to their site) on the front side and 150 on the rear, but you have some counterweight by using the rear plate.

If you arent using the rear plate then you are still 200g lighter...

Sorry, i should have been more specific. It doesn't have the secondary heatsink attached due to case limitations and I have 2 120mm fans mounted on it.

Surely that should bring the weight to at least 1000g?

Genuinely though, 1kg doesn't prove to be a problem. Mind you, the mounting kit for the IFX-14 is pretty hefty. What is interesting, is that if you tug on the heatsink, it doesn't move.

Hopefully the Zalman cooler will prove to be as sturdy.

Good to know that its sturdy. I suppose some of that also boils down to what MOBO you have too and the sturdiness of its construction.

but still, it is heavy...it scares me...

Big heatsinks are awesome - everybody says how 'cool' mine is.

I was very dubious when i bought it, but the thermal performance is outstanding and i have no doubt that the Zalman one is good also.

To me, it makes my PC more interesting than most, and the feeling i get when i go to sleep, realising that when i wake up, there could be a big gaping hole in my motherboard - well, it just makes it worth while.

Really 1Kg is not that heavy, my scythe ninja full copper with 2 fans came in around 1.3kg and my motherboard never complained.... although i switched to a H50 due to the lack of weight on the board.

I look forward to seeing how well this performs.

well OK it didn't break or warp the motherboard.... although yes it was telling me the weight was OK, it talks about it just never complains about it

1Kg isn't that bad looking at other large coolers. It will need a strong mounting mechanism, but the motherboard should be fine.

I have a TRUE 120, with the heatsink alone weighing 790g. It does have a back plate, but you also need to add the weight of the fans - designed to take 2 x 120mm

I've recently got hold of a 150x150x52mm Delta fan from a Dell desktop that I've been wanting to mount with my TRUE, but the fan also weighs in at 1kg - so 1.8kg combined with the heatsink - I've not yet wanted to risk trying to mount it without other support.

That's not too bad on weight, not the heaviest cooler on the market. Just bear in mind it's for home use only, not good for LAN party. Otherwise make sure you carry the case so that the motherboard is horizontal, then the full weight is downward, not shear. I can see it would perform pretty well on cooling. Interested to see how it compare with Noctua- and Thermaltake's top line.
