From my experience, no - which has always been a comically bad shortfall IMO, especially as it affected singleplayer/offline games as well.

Yes, you can play a game but it always paused the download

Re: News - Valve's Steam platform optimised for smoother downloads

you can download at the same time... when you start a game it will pause the download but just alt tab and right click it set to pause download then unpause it and it works. After so many years they are only now just adding a better way around it

I find games/updates just randomly pause all the time and wont resume. Hopefully this is sorted too.

Re: News - Valve's Steam platform optimised for smoother downloads

I keep succumbing to the special offers and buying a plethora of games for cheap which I invariably spend ages waiting to play whilst downloading on a rubbish IP connection and then play only a few times before moving on to the next deal so this is great news for people like me who can't spot the flaw in their actions.

+1. GTA4 was re-acquiring some files to no avail so i had to completely re-download the full ~15GB :|

Re: News - Valve's Steam platform optimised for smoother downloads

Anything which speeds up downloasds and reduces glitches has to be worthwhile.

I am perhaps more biased than most due to miserable local (laughingly termed) broadband speeds: I downloaded 400mb patch yesterday ... it required almost an hour!

Mmmm, Left for Dead 2 downloading a patch at 279kB/s on a 5MB/s line. They have a done a great job at "improving" the downloads haven't they!

You're on Virgin, don't eliminate them as the cause.
