Re: Reviews - Shuttle XPC Barebone SH61R4

Going by today's prices, LGA 1155 CPUs range from £90 for a Core i3-2100 ...
What about the Celeron and Pentium variants? CCL have the Celeron G440 for < £30. Sure, it's only a 1.6GHz single core, but it would be enough for emailing and word processing, which is most of what an office PC is used for. If you want to step up to a faster dual core, another £20 on top of that gets you a Pentium G6xx. There's plenty of LGA 1155 options cheaper than a Core i3 2100 if you're looking for a basic allrounder...

    EDIT:
Apparently the Celly G440 includes Clear Video HD, which would make it a great fit for an HTPC...

    Don't forget the G530. Dual-core 2.4GHz. Only ~£35.

    Well, it's a H61 board after all.

Shuttle make a H67 barebone if 6Gbps SATA ports are your thing.

    no. what is with that?

The corporate logo idea - most places I've worked at just put on really annoying desktop backgrounds and screensavers. But stickers on the PC's themselves just seems....tacky.

Its an artifact due to the angle at which the picture was taken. Any piece of perspex or a similar plastic would show such patterns:

Yeah but why is it even there? it just makes it look worse. i would have preferred just a black front.

The Shuttle models with stealth bays such as the H7,J3 and R5 look much better IMHO. However,I suspect the clear plastic front is there so corporate emblems can be inserted:

However, the clear plastic front can be removed although there will be screw holes. For some reason the R4 range can take mini-ITX motherboards but not the higher end cases.
