Apple can buy their arse out of these situations but they won't buy my opinion. I think they are 'cheaper' than ever.
This article is poorly worded SBB has a Trademark on the the design not a patent. That means that they can retain it indefinitely. 75 years is the length that copyright used to run for in the United states (it was extended in 1998 to life of the author + 70 years) but bears no relevance to patents at all. I freely confess to ignorance on the paticulars of this subject but the day patents are extended to 75 years is the day we should start the next revolution.

Well, it depends on what situation/industry - 25 years isn't necessarily a huge amount of time if it's a drug which has taken 12 year of R&D and only has 13 years to make back it's investments *and profits*. For an technology as short lived as mobile phones it may seem ridiculous yes.
>SBB, a Swiss railway operator
'a' ? Can you name 7 more?
Exactly what I was thinking.
All this does is lower my already low opinion of apple.
As a slightly humorous side note, my daughter works in a mobile phone shop, she needed a new phone so she got herself a brand new iPhone.
She had it 1 day before she took it back and swapped it for a GS3 because she thought the iPhone was junk.
It's actively and daily used, hasn't become obsoleted in any way - why shouldn't it stand? Plenty of alternative clock designs you could make.
IMHO suitable patent periods are rather item specific, what is a good duration for one object is daft for another, I double anyone is still interested in the patents covering the Harvard Mark I also from 1944.
Yeah only because they got pulled on it and it was an obvious design copy.
They basically sued Samsung over a square phone with round corners so of course that would go to court.
They are hypocrites because they used someone else's design without prior permission, exactly what they keep trying to sue others for.
Apple with all this suing and **** made such a bad image to itself. :/
All the money spent in lawyers and all court actions could have been used to improve their products which in my book are the most expensive, yet have the less quality.
But yeah, just like "CoD", while people pay for the brand they will not improve it since it's making money and yeah, it's all about money now.
What goes around comes around.
Bet all the Samsungs offices are having a good laugh.
