I doubt if its the most used, I only set up a gmail address so I could join You Tube, and never ever use the address for sending and receiving mail.
That would make sense.
If you own an Android device and you want to purchase or download anything you need a Gmail account.
Yeah, my google registered non-gmail account wouldn't work with Android so I had to create a gmail account just for that. They're all linked to the same google account which is nice and I have started using the calendar, but I don't use it for normal emails.
Are they counting all the businesses that have kept their domain but use Google Apps?
Well I use g-mail, it's frankly a brilliant service and I love it's simple interface on any device I'm using, it's even nice on the Blackberry Playbook. I'm happy to keep it as my main e-mail, spam and sign-up get shifted to my hotmail these days where I let most junk rot.
Google Apps all the way, best thing since the invention of sliced bread.
And all the people with their own domain who use Google Apps free edition. It's a great little solution to avoid the hassle of running a server or the pain of using a registrar email account.
The privacy concerns are IMHO codswallop, as if anyone at Google is interested in reading my email. Perhaps a machine scans it to see what I like to target ads at me, but TBH if that makes the ads I must see a little less annoying then thats a good thing. I'd rather see ads for SSDs and laptops than pr0n and my little pony.
It took longer than I expected. I have multiple accounts across different sources, from free webmails (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail), work and my private domain, but I must say that my gmails get the most use. One advantage it has over Yahoo, is full SSL session, as opposed to just the log-in (get on with the time Yahoo, I am only keeping you so far because you are the first webmail I've ever signed up to - but if I was about to shift all my stuff from Lycos to Gmail, I can do it from you too).
I have a gmail account but don't use it, only got it for access to Youtube. I still use my hotmail address.
I only have one was android made me, still using my hotmail linked into outlook.
As above, I suspect a large number of these accounts are laying fairly dormant /or only used in for signing in to google related stuff.
Same could be said about hotmail though.
Personally I find gmail awful to use, I still have an account which is linked to some bits, I access it via my hotmail.
