As long as Dell continues to make their enjoyable high end monitors I don't mind who buys them
Isn't that already the case? After all, I don't see Dell shipping a lot of netbook/notebook/desktops with Linux, so the only non-Windows gear is really the server line. And I can't see even a Microsoft-supporting Dell turning away a customer who wants to run Red Hat - especially as Microsoft themselves seem to be less anti-Linux at the moment. As part of the deal “Dell would agree to use Microsoft's Windows software to power the vast majority of its devices” said on the WSJ’s sources.
Quite like Dell gear myself - especially the laptops.
Really gone off Dell recently. Never liked their custom cases etc but always very well built so I recommended them for non-IT friends/family who wont' upgrade. However recently I got my dad a cheap i5 inspiron desktop and its built really badly (cheap ultra thin metal case). It rattles and hums almost constantly and needs a large weight on top to shut it up. They really need to watch quality to keep market share.
Their business support is decent though which explains why we use them.
According to PCPro, they're buying a £3bn stake, not doing a complete takeover.
Thier PC sales have been declining... maybe because of the stuff they use inside their PCs! No sane person buys a Dell desktop!
